Episode 6:14 (The Candidate)

Another FABULOUS episode. Things are really picking up, as they should be with only three episodes left in the entire LOST series. The Candidate didn't have many hilarious moments, but it was an episode that will live in LOST history, so I feel obligated to recap the episode, despite the sad tone.

First we need to see if we learned any new answers to the 42 questions this week.
6. Man In Black (Jacob’s Nemesis) – Since Walt and Locke played backgammon in the pilot episode; fans have known that black and white hold symbolic significance in the world of LOST. So when Jacob’s Nemesis shows up on the beach wearing black while Jacob is wearing white, we knew that the scene was significant. But who, exactly is the man in black, why does he want to kill Jacob? How did he get to the island? Is he really bad, as his black shirt leads us to believe? How does he have the ability to become ‘Flocke’? Also, is there a biblical connection to the story of Jacob and Esau, in which two brothers fight for ‘birthright’ to rule over their father’s wealth and authority? Seems awful likely to this humble fan.

After the death of Sun, Jin, and Sayid we can safely (finally) say that the Man in Black, Flocke, Smokey is bad. That's the biggest lesson from this episode, and one of the bigger questions that was left to be answered. Now we can move on with the plot and root for Jack.

Also, I think we learned a few new things about Flocke.

First, it appears that he need to kill all the candidates, make sure they are all crossed off the list, in order to leave the island. He said that he needed them all together to leave, but really it looks like he needed them all together so he could kill them.

Second, Jack seemed to be right in his assessment that Flocke can't kill the candidates. Much like he couldn't kill Jacob, the candidates are off limits. This explains why in Episode 4 of this season (The Substitute) Flocke saw the boy in the jungle when he was with Sawyer and the boy said, "You know the rules, you can't kill him,". Is Flocke going to utilize his relationship with Sclaire (This is what I would like to start calling Scary Claire, okay?) to get her to kill the leftover candidates (Sawyer, Jack, and Hurley)?

Now for The Strange, The Kick-Ass, and The Hilarious.

Off Island
The Strange
1. Why would Bernard have to do emergency dental surgery on John Locke and Anthony Cooper? I mean, Locke's paralyzed and Cooper is in a vegetative state. Teeth, not important in the long run.
2. Jack keeps running into people from 815, but doesn't seem freaked out. Why not?
3. John Locke muttering "Push the button" and "I wish you would believe me".

The Kick-Ass
1. At the end of the episode, Jack tells John, "I with you would believe me." Those were the words written in Locke's suicide letter to Jack.
2. Claire's music box played "Catch a Falling Star", the song she use to sing to Aaron, and the song her father use to sing to her.
3. Jack eats an Apollo bar from the vending machine. The same candy bar he tries to get out of the machine in Season 5, Episode 17 (The Incident, Part II).

The Hilarious

On Island
The Strange
1. Sayid's transformation from dark to light. Seems that he's been able to overcome the "sickness" in his heart. Was this transformation because he didn't kill Desmond?
2. Sayid's last words to Jack. He told Jack where Desmond was, told him Desmond was important, and told Jack he was going to be the one. Does that mean "the candidate"?

The Kick-Ass
1.DESMOND'S NOT DEAD.
2. SEAMUS IS DEAD. That guy was lame.

The Hilarious
1. Sawyer and Kate back in the sex cages again. A little funny.

Possible Constants?

Since Episode 11 (Happily Ever After), I've been thinking about who will be each others "constants". By constant, I mean that people who are on the island together, and are now meeting in the flash-sideways, may be the key to helping each other remember their island lives. We know Charlie saw Claire, Desmond saw Penny, and Hurley and Libby are each other's constants, but who else is connected? Well, I've developed a chart with possible constants. Each line is numbered and I've listed an explanation below. The graphic is a bit hard to see, so the numbers begin at the top and follow from left to right. You can also click on the graphic to see it close up.

1. Kate Austen and Jack Shephard - They've always been connected on the island and were together for a while off the island during Seasons 4 and 5, they were even engaged before Jack went on a bender with alcohol and pills. I also think there was a brief look of recognition between them when Jack and Kate bumped into each other on the plane. And in Episode 3 (What Kate Does) she spots Jack outside the airport while she's in the taxi cab. She definitely has a moment of "Do I know you?".

2. Daniel Faraday and Charlotte Lewis - In Episode 11 (Happily Ever After) Daniel tells Desmond that he saw Charlotte in the museum and had a feeling of love wash over him, like he had already loved her. Constants? I'd say so, though we've yet to see either of them actually together in the flash-sideways.

3. Charlotte Lewis and James "Sawyer" Ford - In Episode 8 (Recon) Sawyer and Charlotte go on a date and end up back in Sawyer's bed. Now the pair didn't exchange any looks of recognition but Charlotte did seem extra interested in Sawyer's underwear drawer.

4. James "Sawyer" Ford and Kate Austen - Fate seems to keep bringing these two lovers back together in the flash-sideways world. First in the airport elevator, then in the alley when Kate's car hit Sawyers, and now in the police station. Again, the two haven't shared any looks of recognition, but maybe they need a big old smooch like Hurley and Libby to send them back to island time.

5. Daniel Faraday and Desmond Hume - No looks of recognition during their conversation in Episode 11 (Happily Ever After), but all I have to say is, "If all else fails, Desmond Hume is my constant".

6. Desmond Hume and Penny Widmore - I think we can confirm this one. Penny has always been Desmond's constant and the flash-sideways world is no different.

7. James "Sawyer" Ford and Sayid Jarrah - Well, we're getting to the end of the season, and these two guys have been brought together in the flash-sideways. Could they remind each other of the island? I'm not sure, because they didn't exactly have a strong connection on the island, but since they're together now, they could be each other's link.

8. Kate Austen and Aaron Littleton - I'm not sure a constant can be an unborn baby, but Kate surely had an emotional reaction to the whale toy that she pulled out of Claire's bag. And I don't think it was because Kate felt any guilt for stealing from a pregnant lady. Could Aaron be Kate's connection back to the island?

9. Jack Shephard and Desmond Hume - In the season premiere, Jack had a difficult time placing where he knew Desmond from. Could it possibly be Jack was having a few memories of their time together on the island?

10. Jack Shephard and John Locke - Desmond hit John Locke with his car, forcing him into the surgery room of Dr. Jack Shephard. The two have always been polar opposites (the man of science v. the man of faith) and now it seems that Jack is the likely candidate to replace Jacob and protect the world from Flocke. Could bringing these two together bring them back to their island memories? I think I'd bet my money on it.

11. Sun Kwon and John Locke - Seeing Locke at the hospital sent Sun into a panic in Episode 13 (The Last Recruit). She must have been seeing Flocke, not Locke, but why? It doesn't seem to follow that Locke would be Sun's constant, you would think that would be Jin's role, but he's the only one who has sent Sun back to the island.

12. Sun Kwon and Jin Kwon - It seems that true love tends to prevail in the world of constants, so it seems like Sun and Jin should be each others.

13. Jack Shephard and Claire Littleton - Brother and sister, helping each other remember the island? I'm not betting money on it, but stranger things have happened. Also, they're tied together now in the flash-sideways plot line.

14. John Locke and Ben Linus - These two characters definitely have some on-island history, and now they're teaching at the same school. Again, they haven't shared any "Do I know you?" moments, but I still think they could be each other's key.

15. Claire Littleton and Charlie Pace - Charlie saw Claire in his 'almost-dead' dreams, remembering how much he loved her in another time. Now, if they're reunited in the flash-sideways, will Claire have the same feelings toward Charlie?

16. Ben Linus and Alex Rousseau - He raised her as his own on the island, then got her killed, but seems to have remorse for his crime. Now he's her teacher (still a bit creepy though). No looks of recognition, but Alex could bring memories of the island life rushing back to Ben.

17. Hugo "Hurley" Reyes and Libby Smith - Write this one in the books, fans! Their kiss sent Hurley flying back to his time on the island.

18. Claire Littleton and Aaron Littleton - Again, I'm not sure if an unborn child can be a constant, but if Aaron is Claire's past-life connection, this may explain her automatically knowing his name when she saw his ultrasound photo.

18. Kate Austen and Claire Littleton - Kate and Claire's connection has grown in the past season, as Kate's only goal for returning to the island is to bring Claire back to Aaron. Fate put them in the same taxi cab, so could their connection remind them both of the island?

There are my thoughts, have I missed any?

The LOST Boy

I just wanted to make a quick post on the mysterious boy who has appeared twice in the jungle. First we saw him in Episode 4 (The Substitue). He had blood on his hands, appeared to Flocke and said "You know the rules, you can't kill him", possibly referring to Sawyer. Sawyer could also see him, but Richard couldn't. This is what he looked like:

Now this mysterious boy appeared again in Episode 12 (Everybody Loves Hugo). But he was older looking, and had darker hair. He didn't say anything, but he smiled at Desmond. Both Desmond and Flocke could see him. Here's what he looked like in Episode 12:

Same boy, same actor, but why does he look so much older? Why does he have dark hair? And who the heck is he? I thought he was Aaron earlier, but now I'm not so sure. Any ideas?

Here's what the casting call for this character said:

Guest character: TEENAGE BOY - Caucasian, 12-14. Dirty blond hair. Wise beyond his years. He's got intense, searching eyes. He's dealt with a horrible family accident. Even at a young age, he has been put in charge of something very important, and it weighs heavily on his shoulders. RECURRING GUEST STAR.

Horrible family accident...

6:13 (The Last Recruit)

Prior to this post, I've officially written 42 blog entries. Let's take a moment to honor this great LOST number.

Okay, Episode 13 (The Last Recruit) was a pretty action packed episode. It took on a new form, not focusing on one LOSTies life on the flip side, but focusing on almost all of our favorite LOSTies. I have a feeling that this may be the format for the show from here on out.

Here's a run down of what we learned.

2. Claire Littleton – Our favorite island mother has been missing since Season 4, Episode 10 (Something Nice Back Home). We know she saw her father, Christian Shephard, leaves Aaron behind, and wanders off in the jungle night with her dead dad but we don’t know why! What happened to Claire that could take her from doting mother to jungle wander? Why did she leave Aaron behind? We see her in Season 4, Episode 11 (Cabin Fever) seemingly relaxed and Aaron-free sitting in Jacob’s cabin with Christian, but again we receive no explanation of why she’s left her child behind. Let’s hope Season 6 gives us some Claire related clarity!

Thanks to Kate, Claire is on her way back to Aaron. Well, that is if Widmore's people don't kill Sawyer's merry-bunch first. I respect Kate for sticking to her guns and bringing Claire back with her to Aaron, but I'm not sure Claire is fit to be a mother. Will Claire be reunited with Aaron and can they live happily ever after? Also, Claire seems really damaged from being 'left behind'. She wasn't too happy with Jack for leaving her when they left the island at the end of Season 4.

14. Love quadrangle – Who ends up with who? – Don’t pretend you don’t want to know. Are you a Jate (Jack and Kate), a Skate (Sawyer and Kate), a Suliet (Sawyer and Juliet), or a Jacket (Jack and Juliet)? Whoever you’re rooting for, let’s hope this complex love story gets wrapped up in Season 6.

Jack jumped the boat, leaving Kate in Sawyer's camp. Also, Kate and Sawyer were once again reunited in the flash-sideways universe. Could they be each other's link to the island, similar to Claire/Charlie, Desmond/Penny, Daniel/Charlotte, and Hurley/Libby?

29. Why did the Others choose Cindy and the children? – Cindy was a flight attendant on Oceanic 815 and a survivor of the crash with the other Tailies. She went missing when the Tailies were journeying to the beach camp along with Zach and Emma. We later learn that they’ve been living with the Others and Cindy and Emma come to talk to Jack when he’s captured at the Hydra station in Season 3, Episode 9 (Stranger in a Strange Land). Jack asks Cindy why she’s with the Others. She tells him that they are there “to watch”. So why Cindy, Emma, and Zach out of all of the survivors? What’s Cindy’s connection to the Others and did it exist before the crash?

Could this episode have marked the end for Cindy, Emma, and Zach? They were on the beach with Flocke's camp when Widmore bombed them. This may have been their last episode.

30. Christian Shephard – We know he’s more than just Jack father, but what’s going on with Christian Shephard? When Jack saw visions of his father during Season 1, were they really visions or has something possessed Christian’s body? Why does Christian lure Claire into the jungle? Why does Christian appear in Jacob’s cabin?

Flocke admitted to Jack that he was Christian Shephard earlier in the series. Do we believe him? I'm not sure.

This episode was full of great moments, so let's get to The Strange, The Kick-Ass, and The Hilarious for this week.

Off Island
The Strange
1. In the ambulance John Locke refers to Helen as the women he was going to marry, not the women he is going to marry. Was old Locke leaking through?
2. Sun's reaction to John Locke at the hospital. Did she recognize him as Flocke from the island?
3. Illana has no accent in the flash-sideways world. But she does have incredibly nice hair.

The Kick-Ass
1. When Jack looks down at Locke before surgery, he sees Locke's face in the mirror. Mirrors have been really important to this season, and I think there's some kind of message about the connection between Locke and Jack hidden in this mirror.
2. John Locke's dural sac is messed up, which is the exact same issue the patient had in Jack's story he told Kate in the pilot episode. (He cut the dural sac and had to count to 5 to try not to throw up). Cool connection to season one.

The Hilarious
1. Is Desmond stalking Claire? How else would he know where she was going to be?
2. David Shephard was a little too happy this episode. He bordered on corny.
3. For someone who was in the Iraqi Army, Sayid certainly fell hard for Sawyer's trick with the hose.
4. Jack's reaction to the nurse prior to John Locke's surgery. She tells him things are really bad and he responds by saying, "Oh yeah, I've got this".

On Island
The Strange
1. Is Desmond dead or isn't he? Can Sayid come back from the dark side?
2. Is Jack with Flocke? Or is Jack going to ensure that Flocke is never freed from the island?

The Kick-Ass
1. I'm glad Sun and Jin are back together, but couldn't we have made that moment a bit more touching? It seemed a little anti-climatic.

The Hilarious
1. Sawyer looked like a cologne ad throughout this entire episode.
2. Is Frank going to come into play somehow? Right now I feel like he's kind of dead weight.

Another thing I appreciated about this episode was the on-island/off-island mirroring.

1. Jack and John reunited both on and off island.
2. Jack and Claire reunited both on and off island.
3. Sawyer and Kate together on and off island.
4. Jin tells Sun they'll always be together both on and off the island.

Another thought. It seems that if Flocke speaks to you, you are powerless against him. So who hasn't Flocke spoken to? The only person I can think of is Miles. Will he, Richard, and Ben become important again?

Recap 6:12 (Everybody Loves Hugo)

I don't know a single person who doesn't love Hurley, so I think this title is spot on and so was the episode. A nice continuation of Episode 11 (Happily Ever After) and the LONG awaited return of Libby made this episode of Season 6 amazing. Additionally, the baby photos used at the beginning of this episode are actually Jorge Garcia and who wasn't wondering what a little Hurley actually looked like?!

So what did we learn from Episode 12?

10. Libby – Gasps were heard around the world when Michael shot Libby at the end of Season 2 and LOST fans have been waiting for the show to wrap up the Libby plot line for four seasons. So why was she in the Santa Rose Mental Hospital with Hurley? And why didn’t they recognize each other on the island years later? Online rumors abound that the Libby story will not be tackled in Season 6, because Cynthia Watros (a Michigan native) won’t return to Hawaii to pick up the Libby role, but I hope the creators find a way to wrap it up with or without her.

So Libby's alive and well (well, kind of well) in the flash-sideways world. It was great to see Libby and Hurley together again, smooching on the beach like they never got to before. It seems like Libby is Hurley's "constant"; the connection between his two worlds.

26. Hurley’s dead people visions – is he just crazy? – We know Hurley’s had a couple of stints in Santa Rosa Mental Institution, but are his visions really just a result of his mental instability? Desmond’s visions meant his consciousness could move through time, so do Hurley’s visions mean more than meets the eye?

Hurley's ability to speak with the dead is really benefiting him this season. He's been able to utilize this skill to take more control than he's ever been able to have before. I'm glad that this trait has proved to be good.

37. Why does the island whisper? – The whispers are one of the original island mysteries. Many have speculated that the voices are the island’s dead trying to communicate with the living. Others think that the voices may be in a parallel reality and the island is the point where these two worlds meet. Other theories include the Others and Smokey. Who knows? Not me! What I do know is that the whispers have occurred in every season, so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more whispers in Season 6.

Michael returned to clear up an old school LOST mystery. The whispers are the dead, stuck on the island, unable to move on. Nice.

How about the latest edition of The Strange, The Kick-Ass, and The Hilarious? Okay, if you insist!

Off Island
The Strange
1. It took near death experiences for Desmond and Charlie to see their loves. Libby says she was watching TV when she saw Hurley and felt something. Is this true or did something else happen?
2.How did Desmond know Hurley and Libby would be at that beach? Creepy.
3. Why did Desmond hit John Locke with his car. Revenge? To bring John Locke and Jack together? Something I'm missing?

The Kick-Ass
1. Dr. Chang and the statue Hurley got of a dinosaur. Awesome.
2. Hurley was being honored for donating money to the Golden State Natural History Museum. This is where Charlotte works and where Eloise Widmore was hosting her dinner in Episode 11 (Happily Ever After).
3. Hurley's grandpa is alive in this reality. In the old one, he died right after Hurley won the lotto, because Hurley was "unlucky".
4. Desmond was number 42 at Mr. Clucks.

The Hilarious
1. Hurley's mom Carmen is just as worried about him finding a women in this reality as she was in the old one.
2. There was an island drawing on the chalk board of the Santa Rosa Mental Institution rec room. Also, someone was paying Connect Four, which is the game Leonard played at the institution when he used to utter the numbers.

On Island
The Strange
1. Richard, Miles, and Ben splitting off from the group. Where did they go? Are they okay?
2. The child in the jungle is back. Desmond could see him and the boy smiled at him. Why?

The Kick-Ass
1. The reappearance of Michael. Since this is the last season I'd like to see as many of the original LOSTies as possible.
2. Illana exploding. Whoa.
3. Hurley taking charge.

Recap 6:11 (Happily Ever After)

After an extended hiatus (necessary to finish my final exams and get a graduate degree) The LOST Loophole is officially back and better than ever. I'm bringing you backlogged up-dates on Episodes 11 (Happily Ever After), 12 (Everybody Loves Hugo), and 13 (The Last Recruit). I also promise to bring you the latest and greatest in LOST news for the next five weeks.

So let's get right to it. Episode 11 (Happily Ever After) was one of my absolute favorite LOST episodes ever. Desmond episodes rarely disappoint, but I thought this one hit it out of the ballpark (or the giant stadium in the middle of LA that's always open in the middle of the night for random people to run the stairs). I thought it set the tone for the rest of the season and really started to pick up the excitement. It made me anxious to see how everything ends.

So what did we learn? Let's review the questions that were answered this episode. The list is short, since this episode centered around Desmond, but still worth looking at.

34. Why isn’t the island done with Desmond yet? – My favorite Scotsman, Desmond has a unique gift that makes him a central character in the story of the island. We know that Desmond spent time as a monk, in the Royal Scottish Regiment, and as a set designer for the Royal Shakespeare Company, but he’s one of the only main character’s whose childhood is still a mystery to loyal viewers. Are there clues to Desmond’s special powers hidden in his childhood? In Season 5, Episode 6 (316) Eloise Hawking tells Desmond that the island isn’t done with him yet. So what does the island have in store for Desmond and will it take him away from Penny again (I’m just not sure I can bare that pain again!).

Well, unfortunately Desmond has been taken away from Penny again, this time by her father Charles Widmore. For someone who's been such a jerk to Desmond in the past, Desmond was surely ready to help him. I'm not sure I would have been so trusting of Widmore. Widmore seems to think that the electromagnetic activity of the island and Desmond's ability to withstand death from it have something to do with saving the world. Lots of fans have long thought that Desmond is the key to the entire show, and it sure seems like things are heading that way.

35. Eloise Hawking – The character of Eloise Hawking really embodies what is so fabulous about LOST. A character with a brief appearance in Season 3, Episode 8 when she encounters Desmond and lectures him about destiny, Eloise then appears again in Season 5 and plays a central role in the island’s story. There are still many questions surrounding the woman who spent the 1950’s as the leader of the Others on the island. We know that she was on the island, where she was pregnant with Charles Widmore’s child. We know that she must have left the island at some point, but we have no idea why or when. We know her child is Daniel Faraday, but we don’t know why his last name is Faraday or why she hid Charles Widmore as his father. We know she pushed Daniel to the island, but did she know that a younger version of herself would kill him once he’s on the island? Why does she continue to meddle in the affairs of the island? Does she work for Widmore or for someone else connected to the island?

So in the flash-sideways Eloise is married to Charles Widmore and is mother to a living Daniel Faraday, but she still seems to know something about Desmond and his life on the island, or his life with Penny at least. What's her deal? And what's her connection to the island?

So not a lot of questions answered, but a lot of material for this edition of The Strange, The Kick-Ass, and The Hilarious.

Off Island
The Strange
1. In Widmore's LA office, there is a picture of scales, with black rocks on one side and white rocks on the other side. The scale is totally in balance. Is this some kind of message about the balance of good and evil in the flash-sideways world? Also, why is Widmore in LA and not in England?
2. When Desmond and Charlie surfaced in the water by the pier, there were totally people standing close by, but no one came to help. What the heck?
3. How does Eloise know, like, everything?

The Kick-Ass
1. The return of George Minkowski. He's awesome!
2. The return of MacCutcheon Whisky. Desmond was once told by Widmore that he wasn't worth a sip of this whiskey, but he is now.
3. The explanation of why Charlie was choking on a bag of heroin. Makes perfect sense now.
4. It was great to see Desmond and Penny together.

The Hilarious
1. Charlie's shoes when he was wearing the hospital gown. He looked hilarious!
2. Daniel Faraday may have had a new last name (Widmore), but he was still rocking the tie.
3. Seriously, why is that stadium always open?

On Island
The Strange
1. Zoe (who, again, looks strangely like Tina Fey's sister) is a geophysicist. So how the heck does she know what kind of medicine or the proper dosage to give Desmond to wake him up?
2. When Sayid comes out from the woods to take Desmond away, he lets Zoe live. Why?
3. After agreeing to help Widmore, why does Desmond go so willingly with Sayid? Desmond just seems game for anything this episode.

The Kick-Ass
1. It's been awhile since we had a good "eye" opener. I was glad to see this LOST standard back.
2. Widmore tells Desmond, "The island isn't done with you yet". I bet Desmond is sick and tired of hearing that phrase.

The Hilarious
1. Desmond was asked twice in one episode if he had anything metal on him like coins or keys. Very important question, but probably the only man alive that would be asked that so regularly.

Recap 6:10 (The Package) and Tonight's Episode

Last week we finally got the answer to how Jin got stuck in the refridgerator. Also, we learned that Sun and Jin are not married in the flash-sideways, and the watch Keamy was wearing was from Jin. Desmond made a reappearance, but other than that, we didn't learn much.

So what's on the docket for tonight? The episode is titled (highlight for answer) Happily Ever After with a brief discription, "Desmond wakes up to discover he's back on the island", with some major guest stars including Eloise Hawkings, Charlie Pace, Charles Widmore, and Penny. It was written by Carlton and Damon, so it promises to be a top-notch episode.

What will we learn tonight? Here's my wish list.

12. Is Charlie “The Musician”? – In Season 3, Episode22 (Through the Looking Glass) everyone’s favorite British musician, Charlie Pace meets his destiny below the Lost Sea in the dharma station, The Looking Glass. Charlie has traveled to this station to turn off a signal that is jamming the islands communication equipment. Bonnie, an Other, tells Charlie that the code to turn off the jamming equipment is the tune of “Good Vibrations” by The Beach Boys. Before she dies, she reports “It was programmed by a musician”. Could Charlie be this musician? For all of you shaking your head at me, I remind you that nothing is impossible on LOST.

18. Why can’t Ben kill Widmore? – In Season 4, Episode 9 (The Shape of Things to Come), Ben travels off the island Ben visits Widmore in his bedroom in the middle of the night. Widmore asks Ben if he’s come to kill him and Ben replies “we both know I can’t do that.” Why would this be? What is the relationship between these two characters and how will it end? Is one man good and the other man bad? Does the Widmore/Ben relationship shadow the Jacob/Man in Black relationship? I’m sure we’ll learn more about this relationship in Season 6.

34. Why isn’t the island done with Desmond yet? – My favorite Scotsman, Desmond has a unique gift that makes him a central character in the story of the island. We know that Desmond spent time as a monk, in the Royal Scottish Regiment, and as a set designer for the Royal Shakespeare Company, but he’s one of the only main character’s whose childhood is still a mystery to loyal viewers. Are there clues to Desmond’s special powers hidden in his childhood? In Season 5, Episode 6 (316) Eloise Hawking tells Desmond that the island isn’t done with him yet. So what does the island have in store for Desmond and will it take him away from Penny again (I’m just not sure I can bare that pain again!).

35. Eloise Hawking – The character of Eloise Hawking really embodies what is so fabulous about LOST. A character with a brief appearance in Season 3, Episode 8 when she encounters Desmond and lectures him about destiny, Eloise then appears again in Season 5 and plays a central role in the island’s story. There are still many questions surrounding the woman who spent the 1950’s as the leader of the Others on the island. We know that she was on the island, where she was pregnant with Charles Widmore’s child. We know that she must have left the island at some point, but we have no idea why or when. We know her child is Daniel Faraday, but we don’t know why his last name is Faraday or why she hid Charles Widmore as his father. We know she pushed Daniel to the island, but did she know that a younger version of herself would kill him once he’s on the island? Why does she continue to meddle in the affairs of the island? Does she work for Widmore or for someone else connected to the island?

37. Why does the island whisper? – The whispers are one of the original island mysteries. Many have speculated that the voices are the island’s dead trying to communicate with the living. Others think that the voices may be in a parallel reality and the island is the point where these two worlds meet. Other theories include the Others and Smokey. Who knows? Not me! What I do know is that the whispers have occurred in every season, so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more whispers in Season 6.

So sorry for the extended absence, but we're back! Let's recap what we learned with Season 6, Episode 9 (Ab Aeterno).

5. The Black Rock – A British trading ship that is shipwrecked in the Dark Territory of the island, we’re not sure how a giant ship ended up on the middle of the island. According to the first mate’s journal in Season 4, Episode 5 (The Constant) the ship left England in 1845 and sailed towards modern-day Thailand. The journal was found with pirate artifacts on an island off the coast of Madagascar and was owned by the Hanso family (think Dharma Initiative financing) until it was auctioned off to Charles Widmore in 1996. Who was on the boat? What brought the Black Rock to the island? How did the journal get to Madagascar? So many questions, hopefully enough time to answer them all!

Well, the Black Rock brought Richard to the island. It crashed into the Four Toed Statue during a nasty storm and landed in the jungle. Apparently, Jacob brought the ship to the island.

6. Man In Black (Jacob’s Nemisis) – Since Walt and Locke played backgammon in the pilot episode; fans have known that black and white hold symbolic significance in the world of LOST. So when Jacob’s nemisis shows up on the beach wearing black while Jacob is wearing white, we knew that the scene was significant. But who, exactly is the man in black, why does he want to kill Jacob? How did he get to the island? Is he really bad, as his black shirt leads us to believe? How does he have the ability to become ‘Flocke’? Also, is there a biblical connection to the story of Jacob and Esau, in which two brothers fight for ‘birthright’ to rule over their father’s wealth and authority? Seems awful likely to this humble fan.

Well, still no name. But we do know he's been Smokey for a very long time. I'm still out on if he's good or evil. Any thoughts?

7. Richard Alpert – If you have a pulse and are a fan of LOST, you’ve got to be wondering what the heck is going on with Richard Alpert (and I’m not talking about his guyliner)! He claims that Jacob gave him the ability to never age (can I get that in a bottle?), but we’re still not sure why. What brought Richard to the island? Why did Jacob select him to be his ‘advisor’? Does he have a relationship with Jacob’s nemesis? How old is this guy? One of my burning Richard-related questions comes from Season 3, Episode 20 (The Man Behind the Curtain). Richard meets young-Ben in the jungle, and this is the only time Richard’s appearance is different. His hair is long, his clothes are disheveled – what’s up with this? Why isn’t he clean cut Richard we’ve seen ever since? Weird. Let’s hope for some Alpert back story in Season 6.

We've finally had our Alpert back story! He lived on the Canary Islands in 1867. He was brought to the island as a slave on the Black Rock. He was kept alive and freed from his chains by the Man in Black, but made a deal with Jacob that he would help him intervene with the people who come to the island. In return for this Jacob touches Richard, granting his wish that he never dies. Now Richard's sick of Jacob and ready to join Flocke's forces.

11. What does it mean when Jacob touches you? - In Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident), we see Jacob touch eight of our favorite Losties (Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sayid, Hurley, Sun, and Jin) sometime during their life. He touches Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sun and Jin before they travel to the island on 815 and touches Sayid and Hurley after they were rescued as part of the Oceanic Six. He also visits Illana in a Russian hospital and while we think he touched her, he was wearing gloves. When he touches John Locke after Locke falls eight stories, it appears that Jacob brings him back to life. What does this all mean? Will it have implications for the characters he touched in the future?

He grants your wish?

Tonight's episode is the tenth (I can't believe we're on 10 already!) in the season. The episode is called (highlight for answer) The Package and the description reads, "While Sun and Jin continue to search for each other, the Locke monster faces his enemy." Mikhail (PATCHY!), Widmore, and Keamy make appearences. Could tonight be the long awaited reunion between Sun and Jin? Will we learn which Kwon is the candidate? Does the title refer to the watch Jin was bringing from Korea on behalf of Mr. Pak? We'll have to wait and see!

So what will we learn tonight? Here's my wish list:

Widmore asks Ben if he’s come to kill him and Ben replies “we both know I can’t do that.” Why would this be? What is the relationship between these two characters and how will it end? Is one man good and the other man bad? Does the Widmore/Ben relationship shadow the Jacob/Man in Black relationship? I’m sure we’ll learn more about this relationship in Season 6.

21. Pregnancy Issues - Juliet Burke is brought to the island as a fertility specialist in Season 3, Episode 7 (Not in Portland) to help the Others with their child-birthing issues. It appears that the island reduces a woman’s reproductive capabilities, but enhances male sperm count. Women who conceive on the island die before their third trimester, but women who conceive off the island appear to be able to give birth on the island without complication (Claire, Danielle). We’re not sure though, that the pregnancy issues occurred before 1977, as Amy gives birth to a healthy Ethan and we’re pretty sure she conceived on the island. So why are there pregnancy issues when the island seemingly ‘cures’ other ailments (Locke’s paralysis, Rose’s cancer)? What causes the problem? Is it ‘the incident’? Is the pregnancy issue related to the Dharma vaccine and illness?

24. Why do Jack, Hurley, Kate and Sayid flash to 1977, but Sun stays in the present during the 316 crash? – When the Oceanic Six ride on Ajira 316, the plane begins to shake and it is evident that the plane is about to crash on our favorite mysterious island. During the crash, a white flash takes place and Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid disappear. We later learn that they have been transported to 1977 and meet up with Sawyer and the other Losties that have teamed up with the Dharma Initiative. So why is Sun the only member of the Oceanic Six to crash in 2007 with the rest of the Ajira passengers and John Locke’s corpse? I’d like nothing more than to see Sun and Jin reunited – Season 5 was enough time apart! Please, please, please bring them back together in Season 6.

Tonight's Going to be AMAZING

I'm absolutely coming out of my skin with excitment for tonight's big episode. Hopefully everyone saw the awesome sneek-peek at the end of last week's episode. If not, I'm very sorry and I'm about to fill you in. Tonight's episode (highlight for answer), Ab Aeterno, is all about Richard Alpert. Ab Aeterno means "since the beginning of time". The episode will last 1 hour and 6 minutes. The description reads, "Richard Alpert faces a difficult choice" and guest stars Jacob and the man in black. My guess is that not only will we learn a lot about Richard, but the writers will use this opportunity to teach us more about Jacob, the man in black, and the island.

So what will we learn tonight? Here's my wish list.

3. Smokey – Another question that has plagued loyal viewers from the very first episode. What the heck is the black smoke monster!? Is it a security system? Is it a sort of attack dog? Whatever it is, smokey has the ability to ‘judge’ people (Ben, Eko) , seems to live in The Temple, and can be deployed by draining a puddle of water under Ben’s old house in New Otherton. Wealso know it the smoke monster has been on the island for a very long time, as the Egyptian hieroglyphics on the wall of the room below The Temple depict. But the exact purpose and origin of smokey still remain one of Lost’s greatest mysteries.

15. Egyptian Connection - There are many instances of Egyptian artifacts showing up on the island. You can’t spit without hitting a hieroglyphic drawing (on the countdown timer in the Swan, secret door in Ben’s New Otherton house, by the frozen donkey wheel, where Smokey lives, in Dharma classrooms, ect.) and the four toed statue turned out the be a statue of Taweret, the Egyptian Goddess of childbirth (holy crap!). Dharma Paul also wore an ankh around his neck before his death and his widow, Amy, keeps the necklace in her dresser. The ankh is also an ancient Egyptian symbol for life and fertility. There must be some kind of connection between the ancient Egyptians and the island, but what is that connection and is it important? With all of the fertility references, are the Egyptians somehow responsible for the strange pregnancy issues on the island?
16. What’s up with Latin and the Others? – While we’re on the ancient population track, why do the Others speak Latin? In Season 5, Episode 3 (Jughead), we meet two Others (one of which turns out to be good ol’ Chuck Widmore) who speak Latin. It is in this episode we learn that Juliet also speaks Latin. Latin is also the language of choice for Illana’s crew when asking, “What lies in the shadow of the statue?” and for Richard’s reply “He who will save us all”. So how the heck did they learn Latin? Why chose a dead language? Strange.

31. Jacob’s Origins – I know I’m not alone when I say I hope that a large portion of Season 6 is dedicated to Jacob’s back story. Who is this guy? How long has he been on the island? How did he become the leader of the island? Is he good or bad? Did he ever live in that cabin, or has he always lived inside a foot? Does he travel on and off the island via the frozen donkey wheel or is there some other way? How does he know the Losties he traveled to touch? How does he make Richard Alpert seemingly immortal? Jacob must be explored in depth this season!

32. Jacob’s Cabin – First seen by fans in Season 3, Episode 20 (Man Behind the Curtain) Jacob’s cabin is full of mystery. First, we’re not certain Jacob was ever really there, and it he was, he hasn’t lived there for a very long time. So when John Locke visits the cabin, who does he hear whisper “Help me?” Why does Christian Shephard take Claire to the cabin? What’s with the circle of ashes around it? Why can only certain people find the cabin (Hurley, for one) when others cannot?

42. Origin of the Frozen Donkey Wheel – Located beneath the Orchid station, the frozen donkey wheel moves the island through time. When one turns the wheel, it causes them to land in a Tunisian desert. We know the wheel exists in 1974, when Locke pushes the wheel and stops the island from skipping in time. We know that Dharma discovers the wheel in 1977 and that Ben used the wheel sometime in 2005 to leave the island, but we’re still not sure of the origin of the wheel. Since there are hieroglyphics on the wall by the wheel, we can guess that it has been on the island for a very long time, but it would be nice to firm up the origin of the frozen donkey wheel this season, as it is such an interesting and important piece of the island.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Happy new LOST Week! I don't know how you couldn't be excited for this week's episode, which is centered around Richard Alpert and his life. We've been waiting so long to learn more about Richard and now we're going to get (what I hope is) a big payoff.

Thanks again to all of you who voted in the LOST Loophole Poll. It was fitting, since last week's episode centered on Sawyer, that we take a short look back on some of Sawyer's best nicknames ever. "Mr. Clean", which he quipped at John Locke, won fan favorite, hands down. Don't forget to vote in this week's new poll!

Let's recap last week's episode. Recon centered around Sawyer, and I was glad to see his on-island and off-island life.

Off-Island

The Strange

1. James Ford is still looking for Anthony Cooper so he can kill him. So while Sawyer's profession has changed, his underlying life-goal is still the same. What is LOST trying to tell us?

2. Miles's father is alive. Is his father still Dr. Chang (one would assume)? If he is Dr. Chang, was he ever one the island or part of DHARMA?

3. It surely seemed like Charlotte wasn't looking for a t-shirt when she was going through Sawyer's dresser drawer. What was she looking for? Does she work for someone? What's going on with this?

4. There was another mirror in this episode. I'm telling you, there's something with mirrors this season.

The Kick-Ass

1. Sawyer's job as a LAPD officer involves him sleeping with attractive women. Can you think of a better job for Sawyer?

2. Miles is his partner, the clock in the motel room was set at 8:42, and the safe word was "LaFluer". We started out this episode with lots of great island reminders.

3. Miles says Sawyer "You don't want to die alone." The theme of living together or dying alone lives on off the island!

4. The books on James Ford's dresser were all books he read on the island. The titles were Watership Down, A Wrinkle in Time, and Lancelot.

5. One of the main character traits of Sawyer on the island is his knowledge pop culture. He still seems to be a pop culture junky, referring to Indiana Jones, Bullitt and watching Little House on the Prairie. He told Kate on the island that he liked Little House.

The Hilarious

1. Sawyer brings a yellow flower to Charlotte to make up for his behavior the night before. He also brings a yellow flower to Juliet on the island when they lived together. He's got the same lady skills both on and off the island.

2. Sawyer's trademark "Son of a bitch" when he catches a fugitive Kate.

On-Island

The Strange

1. The moment between Flocke and the children, Zach and Emma. Does he have a soft spot for children? He seems to care a lot about Aaron too, who he's never even met.

2. What the heck is wrong with Sayid? There's something seriously wrong with him.

3. Claire and Kate's reconciliation. Is it for real? Will Claire try to hurt Kate again? Will Kate help Claire find her sanity?

4. When Flocke is speaking with Kate about having a crazy mother, is he talking about John Locke's mom, Emily? She was a bit crazy, but he didn't have much of a relationship with her. So who's Flocke's mom and why was she crazy?

5. What's in Widmore's locked room on his sub?

6. Who is Sawyer really with, Widmore, Flocke, Kate, no one?

The Kick-Ass

1. We saw both Sawyer and Jin again, who've been missing for the last few episodes. I'm glad to know they were together and safe.

2. Tying up the Ajira storyline. I'm glad we've closed the door on what happened to the survivors of the Ajira flight.

The Hilarious

1. Did Zoe (the women Sawyer found on the Hydra island) look like Tina Fey or what?

Episode 6:08 Recon

I thought last night's episode was fantastic, especially the off-island flash-sideways. I know that a lot of LOST fans are still not sure about the flash-sideways, but I'm really beginning to like them. Sawyer's flash-sideways was full of on-island reminders and I absolutely love the relationship between Miles and Sawyer. What did you all think?

Anyhow, let's get into the questions that were discussed last night.

2. Claire Littleton – Our favorite island mother has been missing since Season 4, Episode 10 (Something Nice Back Home). We know she saw her father, Christian Shephard, leaves Aaron behind, and wanders off in the jungle night with her dead dad but we don’t know why! What happened to Claire that could take her from doting mother to jungle wander? Why did she leave Aaron behind? We see her in Season 4, Episode 11 (Cabin Fever) seemingly relaxed and Aaron-free sitting in Jacob’s cabin with Christian, but again we receive no explanation of why she’s left her child behind. Let’s hope Season 6 gives us some Claire related clarity!

We learned a bit more about Claire tonight. First we saw her creepy skeleton baby again, which she told Kate was "all she had". Again, super creepy. She also attacked Kate, which we've been waiting for all season. What was surprising was Flocke's reaction to the fight. He pulled Claire off of Kate and smacked her in the face. Flocke later tells Kate that he told Claire the Others took Aaron, in order to give her something to hate. WHAT!? Essentially he's responsible for driving Claire crazy. Which is strange since Flocke doesn't think Claire is capable of raising Aaron because she is nuts. Weird. Also, what does it mean that Flocke had a crazy mother? He says his mother was crazy "before he looked like this", so he's not refering to Locke's mom, but his own past. Hmmm.

14. Love quadrangle – Who ends up with who? – Don’t pretend you don’t want to know. Are you a Jate (Jack and Kate), a Skate (Sawyer and Kate), a Suliet (Sawyer and Juliet), or a Jacket (Jack and Juliet)? Whoever you’re rooting for, let’s hope this complex love story gets wrapped up in Season 6.

When Sawyer tracked back to the polar bear cages and looked longingly at Kate's dress in the place where they first humped, it was evident that he still has feelings for her. He also promised tonight to get her off the island. Sawyer's "with" Flocke and Jack's "with" Jacob, so Kate will essentially have to choose between Flocke and Jacob through her choice of Sawyer or Jake. Crazy!

17. Charlotte Lewis’s back story - We know she’s an anthropologist who grew up on the island where her parents were members of the Dharma Initiative. We know she leaves the island with her mother but not her father and that she meets Daniel Faraday as a child and again as an adult who has returned to the island as a member of the freighter crew. We even know she’s not allowed a chocolate before dinner. But we still don’t know an awful lot about Charlotte, including who her father is and why this pretty British woman speaks fluent Korean. Even though she met her untimely death, I hope we hear more about Charlotte and the mystery that surrounds her character.

No back story, but we did get to see Charlotte again. She was looking much better than the nose-bleeding Charlotte we last saw in Season 5. Do we think she was still a child on the island when her parents were part of DHARMA? We know she's still an anthropologist, but that's about it. I wonder if we'll learn more about her this season.

18. Why can’t Ben kill Widmore? – In Season 4, Episode 9 (The Shape of Things to Come), Ben travels off the island Ben visits Widmore in his bedroom in the middle of the night. Widmore asks Ben if he’s come to kill him and Ben replies “we both know I can’t do that.” Why would this be? What is the relationship between these two characters and how will it end? So Widmore is back, making deals with Sawyer. Is he really there for Flocke? I don't think so. He's there to control the island, and I think he's there to do some damage to Ben Linus. Also, what the heck is in the locked door on the sub? I recently heard a theory on the Jay and Jack Lost Podcast, that I think could hold the answer to the locked door. In Season 5, Ben was only able to go back to the island because he was on the plane with people who were suppose to go back to the island (Jack, Sun, Hurley, Sayid, Kate). We also know that Charles Widmore has not been able to make it back to the island until now. So why can he find the island now, but not before? Because DESMOND IS IN THE LOCKED ROOM. We know the island isn't done with Desmond yet, therefore he is able to return and bring Chuck Widmore with him (against Desmond's will would be my guess). Come on, it makes sense.

Also interestingly enough, this episode began the same way Season 1, Episode 8 (Confidence Man) began, with Sawyer in bed with a woman that he was "conning". Confidence Man was the first Sawyer centric episode of the series. It is also the episode in which Sawyer reads Watership Down, which appears on his dresser in last night's episode.

All in all, great episode. But, I absolutely CANNOT WAIT for next week.

I'm impatiently awaiting tonight's episode, wondering who it will center around. Whose flash-sideways haven't we seen yet? Sun/Jin, Sawyer, Hurley, Desmond, Claire, Miles, Richard, and Illana haven't had a character-centric episode yet. Who are you hoping to learn more about tonight? I'd love to see anyone's! Tonight's episode is titled (highlight here for answer): Recon. According to TV Guide, "The Locke Monster sends Sawyer on a mission." Sounds like a Sawyer episode, perhaps? Guest stars include: Charlotte Lewis, Charles Widmore and Liam Pace. Strange group!

With the Losties stuck in 1977, could Hurley actually be tied to the origin of the numbers that later drive him mad?

We may be done with the numbers, but I hope not. I'd still like to know the connection between the numbers and DHARMA.

17. Charlotte Lewis’s back story - We know she’s an anthropologist who grew up on the island where her parents were members of the Dharma Initiative. We know she leaves the island with her mother but not her father and that she meets Daniel Faraday as a child and again as an adult who has returned to the island as a member of the freighter crew. We even know she’s not allowed a chocolate before dinner. But we still don’t know an awful lot about Charlotte, including who her father is and why this pretty British woman speaks fluent Korean. Even though she met her untimely death, I hope we hear more about Charlotte and the mystery that surrounds her character.

18. Why can’t Ben kill Widmore? – In Season 4, Episode 9 (The Shape of Things to Come), Ben travels off the island Ben visits Widmore in his bedroom in the middle of the night. Widmore asks Ben if he’s come to kill him and Ben replies “we both know I can’t do that.” Why would this be? What is the relationship between these two characters and how will it end? Is one man good and the other man bad? Does the Widmore/Ben relationship shadow the Jacob/Man in Black relationship? I’m sure we’ll learn more about this relationship in Season 6.

Once the plane has crashed she and a few other survivors (including Bram) stuff John Locke’s corpse into a giant metal box and begin wandering around the island to find Jacob’s cabin. We’ve seen both Illana and Bram before, off the island. Illana is visited by Jacob in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) where she says she will ‘help him’. Bram throws Miles into a van in Season 5, Episode 13 (Some Like it Hoth) and tells him not to work for Widmore. So how are they connected to Jacob and the island? How does Illana know her way around the island enough to find Jacob’s cabin and the statue? Who do they work for, who are the “good guys”?

40. Who’s coming? - When Jacob bites the dust at the hands of Ben in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) he’s last words to Flocke are “They’re coming”. Then he burns to death. I’ve got no idea who’s coming, do you?

Another week, another recap! I thought Episode 6:07, Dr. Linus, was a really fantastic episode and I was excited to rewatch it. Let's recap.

Off The Island

The Strange
1. John Locke convinces Ben to take down the principal of the high school, which is eerily similar to when Flocke convinced Ben to kill Jacob, the leader of the island.
2. Roger Linus alludes to the DHARMA initative. This is the first time that we've heard of DHARMA during a flash-sideways.
3. Alex has a confederate flag on her back pack.

The Kick-Ass
1. Ben's lesson at the beginning of the episode is on Napoleon Bonaparte, a short man who was banished to an island, where he was devestated by the loss of his power. The similarities are scary.
2. Ben is once again must decide between his own power-hungry nature and Alex's well being. This time, he chooses Alex, which is awesome.

The Hilarious
1. Dr. Arzt has something on his shirt. In the Season 1 finale (Exodus), he was the something on Jack's shirt.
2. Ben's giving his dad oxygen, a much different kind of gas than he gave his father duirng Season 3, Episode 20 (The Man Behind the Curtain) when Ben killed him.
3. Alex is not a high school student. No way. She's like 26 years old.

On The Island
The Strange
1. We learned that Richard came to the island on The Black Rock. The Black Rock set sail from England, but Richard isn't English, so what's up with that?
2. Richard can't kill himself and Jacob's touch is a curse. What does this all mean?

The Kick-Ass
1. Ben didn't die.
2. Charles Widmore's returning to the island. Is he the "they" Jacob was talking about when he said "they're coming"?

The Hilarious
1. Hurley's dreaming of cheese curds.
2. Miles takes the diamonds from Nikki and Paulo's grave.

Hi all! Happy Thursday. For all of you living in Michigan, I hope you are all enjoying the weather. For readers elsewhere, I'm sure your weather is always better than ours in Michigan anyway!

Thanks to all who voted in the latest LOST Loophole poll. Juliet was voted the most likely to be David Shephard's mom, followed by "I've got no idea!". Libby and Sarah also recieved votes. Make sure to cast your vote in this week's new poll.

I took some time to poke around YouTube, which offers tons of LOST related videos. I've posted a few today for you to enjoy!

This video is a side by side recap of the Oceanic 815 flights. It's really interesting to see the similarities and the differences between the crashed plane and the one that landed.

This video stars one of my favorite LOSTies, and will absolutely make you chuckle.

Finally, the Season 4 finale brought us the answer to one of LOST's greatest mysteries, revealing who was in the coffin. In order to keep the secret, the creators taped a few different versions of the ending. Take a look to see who else they stuck in the casket.

Episode 6:07 - Dr. Linus

Last night's episode was classic LOST, a good story with great characters, more questions, a few answers, and a cliff-hanger ending. I've heard a lot of complaints about Dr. Linus, but I'm not going to complain about any of the remaining LOST episodes. Let's just enjoy the ride people!

Okay, so what did we learn last night?

7. Richard Alpert – If you have a pulse and are a fan of LOST, you’ve got to be wondering what the heck is going on with Richard Alpert (and I’m not talking about his guyliner)! He claims that Jacob gave him the ability to never age (can I get that in a bottle?), but we’re still not sure why. What brought Richard to the island? Why did Jacob select him to be his ‘advisor’? Does he have a relationship with Jacob’s nemesis? How old is this guy? One of my burning Richard-related questions comes from Season 3, Episode 20 (The Man Behind the Curtain). Richard meets young-Ben in the jungle, and this is the only time Richard’s appearance is different. His hair is long, his clothes are disheveled – what’s up with this? Why isn’t he clean cut Richard we’ve seen ever since? Weird. Let’s hope for some Alpert back story in Season 6.

So Richard came to the island on the Black Rock, in chains. He reinforced that Jacob gave him the ability not to age and he is unable to kill himself. We know the Black Rock set sail from England in March of 1845, making Richard really, really old.

11. What does it mean when Jacob touches you? - In Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident), we see Jacob touch eight of our favorite Losties (Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sayid, Hurley, Sun, and Jin) sometime during their life. He touches Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sun and Jin before they travel to the island on 815 and touches Sayid and Hurley after they were rescued as part of the Oceanic Six. He also visits Illana in a Russian hospital and while we think he touched her, he was wearing gloves. When he touches John Locke after Locke falls eight stories, it appears that Jacob brings him back to life. What does this all mean? Will it have implications for the characters he touched in the future?

Richard explains that when Jacob touches you it's not a gift, it's a curse. What does that mean? We're still not sure, but it's a step closer.

18. Why can’t Ben kill Widmore? – In Season 4, Episode 9 (The Shape of Things to Come), Ben travels off the island Ben visits Widmore in his bedroom in the middle of the night. Widmore asks Ben if he’s come to kill him and Ben replies “we both know I can’t do that.” Why would this be? What is the relationship between these two characters and how will it end? Is one man good and the other man bad? Does the Widmore/Ben relationship shadow the Jacob/Man in Black relationship? I’m sure we’ll learn more about this relationship in Season 6.

We only saw Charles Widmore for a second at the end of this episode, so I'm sure a showdown is coming up soon! How did Charles find his way back to the island and what will he do to Ben and the other Losties?

Jacob was "like a father" to Illana. She also seems to know everything about the island, including Miles's ability to speak with the dead. I wish she'd start talking more!

31. Jacob’s Origins – I know I’m not alone when I say I hope that a large portion of Season 6 is dedicated to Jacob’s back story. Who is this guy? How long has he been on the island? How did he become the leader of the island? Is he good or bad? Did he ever live in that cabin, or has he always lived inside a foot? Does he travel on and off the island via the frozen donkey wheel or is there some other way? How does he know the Losties he traveled to touch? How does he make Richard Alpert seemingly immortal? Jacob must be explored in depth this season!

I don't know about you, but the more I learn about Jacob, the less I like him. He forced Dogen to choose between his son's life and living on an island, he trapped the Temple Others in the Temple, he cursed Richard Alpert with eternal life on the island but never told him anything...Doesn't sound like a guy I'd want to make a deal with.

What else we learned:

Roger Linus eludes to the DHARMA Initiative in the flash-sideways. This is the first time we've heard about DHARMA off island.

Illana tells us that there are only 6 candidates left. She's not sure if Kwon refers to Jin or Sun. So who could the six be? John Locke was crossed out, so that leaves five of our Losties (Hurley, Sawyer, Sayid, Jack, Sun/Jin). Austen, number 51 is the only other name not crossed off that we've seen, so I think we can assume those are the 6 left.

Special Double Edition: Recap 6:06 (Sundown) and What Will We Learn Tonight?

This last week was super busy, so I apologize for my neglect of this blog, but I assure you that I am back on the horse for good!

First, I'd like to give two special LOST Loophole congratulations to two Losties that won Academy Awards this last Sunday. First is LOST musical composer Michael Giacchino who won an Oscar for Original Score for the movie Up!. Next, Fisher Stevens, who played George Minkowski, one of the freightor folk, who suffered from a nasty nose bleed and died in Season 4 of LOST, won an Oscar for Best Documentary for The Cove, which he produced. Nice work boys!

I rewatched Sundown last night and picked up on a few things, though I've got to admit, there weren't a whole lot of funny parts in last week's episode. It was incredibly dark, especially with the creepy rendition of "Catch a Falling Star" at the end.

Off Island

The Strange
1. Nadia's married to Omer, Sayid's brother. Sayid and Nadia obviously have some history together, and she claims Sayid pushed her towards Omer, but what's the real deal here? Sayid was always so in love in Nadia that it just doesn't seem right that they're not together in his flash-sideways. Why does Sayid's life suck compared to the other flash-sideways which at least have minimal improvements for our Losties?
2. Sayid says that he "does not deserve" Nadia because of all the terrible things he did as an Iraqi interrogator. What did he do? Why the self inflicted pain?
3. Is Martin Keamy the top dog, or does he still work for Charles Widmore?

The Kick-Ass
1. Jack Shephard's appearance at St. Sabastian Hospital.
2. Martin Keamy. That guy is super creepy, but amazing! I'd eat his eggs, if you know what I mean, wink, wink.
3. Speaking of Martin Keamy, he's definately wearing a watch, though we can't see any details of the watch. Could it be the one Jin was bringing from Mr. Pak?
4. Jin's in a freezer. That's all.

The Hilarious
1. Do all bad guys drive around in black SUVs?

On Island

The Strange
1. The baseball. At least we know what it means now.
2. No blood when Sayid stabs Flocke. Jacob died when he was stabbed, but Flocke doesn't. Can he die?
3. The reunion of Kate and Claire. Will Claire kill Kate? I'm hoping for a good cat fight sometime soon.
4. Dogen's deal with Jacob. If Jacob is so good, why would he take Dogen away from his son forever? Sounds like a deal someone would make with the devil to me.

The Kick-Ass
1. The fight scene between Sayid and Dogen was, hands down, one of the best fights in Lost history involving a broom.
2. Smokey really gave it to the Others. He's not messing around.

The Hilarious
I've got nothing. Sad episode.
So, I heard on the latest edition of the Jay and Jack LOST Podcast that this season is split into three acts, each comprising of 6 episodes. The first act ended with last week's episode, so we're moving into a new act with tonight's episode. Exciting!

Tonight's episode is called (highlight for answer) Dr. Linus. According to TV Guide, "Ben must deal with the consequences of a lie." Wow, Ben's told so many lies, I can't imagine which one this episode will deal with. Also, Charles Widmore, Alex, and Dr. Arzt as listed as guest stars.

So, what will we learn tonight? Here's my wish list.

We know he doesn’t just take over Locke’s body, as Illana’s crew is hauling the body all over the island in search of Richard Alpert, so how exactly does he become John Locke? And does Jacob’s nemesis choose John Locke anyway? For how long has he been John Locke? Many fans postulate that Locke’s been Flocke since Ben shot him in Season 3, Episode 22 (Through the Looking Glass) , but we still don’t know for certain! Surely Flocke related mysteries will be resolved in Season 6.

5. The Black Rock – A British trading ship that is shipwrecked in the Dark Territory of the island, we’re not sure how a giant ship ended up on the middle of the island. According to the first mate’s journal in Season 4, Episode 5 (The Constant) the ship left England in 1845 and sailed towards modern-day Thailand. The journal was found with pirate artifacts on an island off the coast of Madagascar and was owned by the Hanso family (think Dharma Initiative financing) until it was auctioned off to Charles Widmore in 1996. Who was on the boat? What brought the Black Rock to the island? How did the journal get to Madagascar? So many questions, hopefully enough time to answer them all!

Biblically speaking, Aaron is the son of Jacob, making him a significant piece of the island puzzle. Some even think Widmore is Aaron’s paternal grandfather, making the island connection to Aaron even stronger. Others speculate that Aaron died in-utero and was “resurrected” by Jacob’s nemesis. Still others think he’s the Adam of Adam and Eve. Much speculation for such a little boy!

What a great episode! The last 15 minutes rocked my socks off. It looks like the war we've waited so long for has finally begun. While the episode was exciting, we didn't get very many answers this week, but let's see what answers we got this week.

So, Dogen was keeping Flocke out of the Temple. Strange.

29. Why did the Others choose Cindy and the children? – Cindy was a flight attendant on Oceanic 815 and a survivor of the crash with the other Tailies. She went missing when the Tailies were journeying to the beach camp along with Zach and Emma. We later learn that they’ve been living with the Others and Cindy and Emma come to talk to Jack when he’s captured at the Hydra station in Season 3, Episode 9 (Stranger in a Strange Land). Jack asks Cindy why she’s with the Others. She tells him that they are there “to watch”. So why Cindy, Emma, and Zach out of all of the survivors? What’s Cindy’s connection to the Others and did it exist before the crash?

We saw Cindy and the kids again, but still no answers as to why they were chosen.

What will we learn tonight!?

Another Tuesday another episode of LOST to enjoy. Tonight's episode is the 6th episodes of this season, and is titled (highlight for details) Sundown. If the pattern between Season 1 and Season 6 continues, tonight's episode will be a Sun/Jin centered episode. According to TV Guide, "Sayid must make a difficult decision, while Claire has a warning for the temple inhabitants". Should be another good one!

So what's on my agenda tonight? Here's my list.

We know she saw her father, Christian Shephard, leaves Aaron behind, and wanders off in the jungle night with her dead dad but we don’t know why! What happened to Claire that could take her from doting mother to jungle wander? Why did she leave Aaron behind? We see her in Season 4, Episode 11 (Cabin Fever) seemingly relaxed and Aaron-free sitting in Jacob’s cabin with Christian, but again we receive no explanation of why she’s left her child behind. Let’s hope Season 6 gives us some Claire related clarity!

9. Adam and Eve – In Season 1, Episode 6 (House of the Rising Sun) the Losties travel to some caves located in the interior of the island where they find two skeletons, one male, one female. Jack finds two stones on the bodies, one black, one white. The creators of LOST have said that the most common question they are asked is if they are making up the plot of the show as they go along, or if they have had it planned. They say that the long-term plot has been planned from the beginning, and in the end, viewers will be able to look back to Adam and Eve as proof that the creators always knew where the show was going to end. So this leads me to believe we will find out the identities of Adam and Eve, and they are probably characters we already know. Rose and Bernard, as the black and white stones may indicate? Sun and Jin, as the bodies first appear in a Sun-centered episode? Sawyer and Juliet, Jack and Kate, Aaron and Ji-Yeon, Eloise Hawking and Charles Widmore? The possibilities are endless!

29. Why did the Others choose Cindy and the children? – Cindy was a flight attendant on Oceanic 815 and a survivor of the crash with the other Tailies. She went missing when the Tailies were journeying to the beach camp along with Zach and Emma. We later learn that they’ve been living with the Others and Cindy and Emma come to talk to Jack when he’s captured at the Hydra station in Season 3, Episode 9 (Stranger in a Strange Land). Jack asks Cindy why she’s with the Others. She tells him that they are there “to watch”. So why Cindy, Emma, and Zach out of all of the survivors? What’s Cindy’s connection to the Others and did it exist before the crash?

34. Why isn’t the island done with Desmond yet? – My favorite Scotsman, Desmond has a unique gift that makes him a central character in the story of the island. We know that Desmond spent time as a monk, in the Royal Scottish Regiment, and as a set designer for the Royal Shakespeare Company, but he’s one of the only main character’s whose childhood is still a mystery to loyal viewers. Are there clues to Desmond’s special powers hidden in his childhood? In Season 5, Episode 6 (316) Eloise Hawking tells Desmond that the island isn’t done with him yet. So what does the island have in store for Desmond and will it take him away from Penny again (I’m just not sure I can bare that pain again!).

40. Who’s coming? - When Jacob bites the dust at the hands of Ben in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) he’s last words to Flocke are “They’re coming”. Then he burns to death. I’ve got no idea who’s coming, do you?

I Pity The Fool...Who Has Never Seen LOST

Friends and fellow Losties! We've entered another week in LOST and I couldn't be more excited! Can you imagine how gloomy Tuesdays in February would be without LOST? Well, believe it or not, there are people out there that have never seen LOST. Instead of feeling sorry for them, let's laugh at their attempts to explain this often confusing show.

The title of this post is a quote by our favorite rebel without a cause, Sawyer from Season 5, Episode 14 (The Variable). You may be wondering why I've titled the blog this, but wonder no longer! Today's post is in honor of the cakes and other confectionary goodies made with LOST themes.

Before I get to the cakes, I've got some Easter eggs from Lighthouse. When Jack enters his apartment, you can see an old exercise bike. This exercise bike is the same one that was in the Hatch during Season 2, when it was utilized by Desmond to keep fit during his button-duty-time. Also, the song David Shephard plays at his audition is the same song a young Daniel Faraday plays in Season 5, Episode 14 (The Variable). Finally, when Jack attempts to find David at his mom's house, he finds the key under a statue of a white rabbit. The Season 1 episode that mirrors this episode was called White Rabbit.

Anyway, back to the cake!

Episode 6:05 (Lighthouse)

I'm a day late and always a dollar short, so please accept my sincerest apologies my fellow Losties. But never fear, I was keeping track of the latest and greatest answers from this week's episode.

Before I begin, let's address last week's LOST poll, which was the closest poll we've had yet on The Lost Loophole. Out of the seven people that took the poll, 4 of you think Kate is telling the truth and that she is innocent and 3 of you think that she is lying and is actually guilty. Only time will tell my friends! Make sure to weigh in on this week's poll.

Okay, down to business.

1. The numbers – First appearing in Episode 18 of Season 1 (Numbers), 4-8-15-16-23-42 have been part of LOST folklore from the very beginning. They help Hurley win the lottery, they must be typed into the hatch computer every 108 minutes or the world will end, they appear on Danielle’s map, they are the serial number on the door of The Swan, and they drive Leonard crazy, but what are their origins? With the Losties stuck in 1977, could Hurley actually be tied to the origin of the numbers that later drive him mad?

Okay, so this episode brought us more information about the numbers. Each number cooresponds to a degree on the Lighthouse wheel. The names of candidates are written on the Lighthouse wheel next to their cooresponding degree. When the wheel is alligned to a particular number we could see a place attached to each candidate (i.e., Jack's childhood house, Sun and Jin's Temple, the church where Sawyer's parent's funeral was held). Holy cow.

2. Claire Littleton – Our favorite island mother has been missing since Season 4, Episode 10 (Something Nice Back Home). We know she saw her father, Christian Shephard, leaves Aaron behind, and wanders off in the jungle night with her dead dad but we don’t know why! What happened to Claire that could take her from doting mother to jungle wander? Why did she leave Aaron behind? We see her in Season 4, Episode 11 (Cabin Fever) seemingly relaxed and Aaron-free sitting in Jacob’s cabin with Christian, but again we receive no explanation of why she’s left her child behind. Let’s hope Season 6 gives us some Claire related clarity!

Claire's gone craaaazy. She's been living in the jungle with her "friend" Flocke and her father Christian Shephard, escaping the Others for the last three years. We also learned that they captured her at some point and took her to the Temple for some Sayid-style torture action. She axed an Other in the chest and told Jin she was going to "kill" Kate if she raised Aaron, so it's fair to say she's a little hostile.

9. Adam and Eve – In Season 1, Episode 6 (House of the Rising Sun) the Losties travel to some caves located in the interior of the island where they find two skeletons, one male, one female. Jack finds two stones on the bodies, one black, one white. The creators of LOST have said that the most common question they are asked is if they are making up the plot of the show as they go along, or if they have had it planned. They say that the long-term plot has been planned from the beginning, and in the end, viewers will be able to look back to Adam and Eve as proof that the creators always knew where the show was going to end. So this leads me to believe we will find out the identities of Adam and Eve, and they are probably characters we already know. Rose and Bernard, as the black and white stones may indicate? Sun and Jin, as the bodies first appear in a Sun-centered episode? Sawyer and Juliet, Jack and Kate, Aaron and Ji-Yeon, Eloise Hawking and Charles Widmore? The possibilities are endless!

We saw Adam and Eve for the first time in 5 seasons! We're still not sure who they are, but you've got to wonder if what Hurley had to say (about time travel and Adam and Eve possibly being two of our favorite Losties) holds any water.

17. Charlotte Lewis’s back story - We know she’s an anthropologist who grew up on the island where her parents were members of the Dharma Initiative. We know she leaves the island with her mother but not her father and that she meets Daniel Faraday as a child and again as an adult who has returned to the island as a member of the freighter crew. We even know she’s not allowed a chocolate before dinner. But we still don’t know an awful lot about Charlotte, including who her father is and why this pretty British woman speaks fluent Korean. Even though she met her untimely death, I hope we hear more about Charlotte and the mystery that surrounds her character.

There was a Lewis on the Lighthouse wheel at number 104, making her a candidate. In the cave, Lewis was listed as 140. Production error? Or maybe someone copied the numbers from the Lighthouse to the cave and made a mistake? Also, we're not positive the Lewis is Charlotte, it could also be her mother or father who were members of the DHARMA initiative.

39. Frank Lapidus is a candidate for what? – Lapidus first arrives on the island as a member of the freighter team, but we later learn that he was suppose to be the pilot of the ill-fated Oceanic 815. He brings the Oceanic Six to the freighter via the helicopter and returns to the island as the pilot of Ajira 316. When Illana’s team takes off in search of Richard Alpert and Jacob, Illana asks Lapidus the infamous question, “What lies in the shadow of the statue?”. Lapidus doesn’t have the slightest idea, so she knocks him out. When he wakes up, the group tells him he may be “a candidate” and that he can come with them. What the heck is he a candidate for?

Frank wasn't on the Lighthouse wheel, and he wasn't on the cave wall. I'm thinking he's not a candidate.

41. Why does Stuart Radzinski kill himself? – Definitely my most-hated Dharma character, we’re told that Stuart Radzinski shoots himself in the head while living in the Swan station. Radzinski plays an important role in the building of the Swan station throughout Season 5 and we know that eventually he works in the station with Kevin Inman. He paints a mysterious map of the island on the Swan blast door and edits the Swan Orientation video before he kills himself in the Swan. Does madness drive him to suicide or is there more to the Radzinski storyline?

106 on the Lighthouse wheel belongs to an "SRandzinski". Is this our friend Stuart?

According to Lostpedia.com, Austen is listed as 51 on the Lighthouse wheel. Seems likely that this could be Kate. 51 is the inverse of 15, which is Sawyer's number. Could this be a hint to the love quadrangle outcome?

Tonight's QTBA

I absolutely love Tuesdays and I am super pumped for tonight's episode of LOST. This is what we know about Season 6, Episode 5 (highlight for answers): Lighthouse. According to TV Guide, "Hurley tries to pursuade Jack to accompany him on an unspecified mission while Sawyer runs into an old friend".

A quick note about Season 6, Episode 3 (What Kate Does). There was a bit of controversy about the ultrasound of Claire's baby that was taken in the hospital. The date on the ultrasound was 10/22/2004 which led people to question the date of the new Oceanic 815 landing. According to the LOST podcast with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, the date was a prop error. The plane did in fact, land on 9/22/2004, which is also the day it originally crashed on the island. Good to know.

Okay, down to business. Knowing the little information we do about tonight's episode, these are the questions I'd like to see addressed tonight.

What does it mean when Jacob touches you? - In Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident), we see Jacob touch eight of our favorite Losties (Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sayid, Hurley, Sun, and Jin) sometime during their life. He touches Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sun and Jin before they travel to the island on 815 and touches Sayid and Hurley after they were rescued as part of the Oceanic Six. He also visits Illana in a Russian hospital and while we think he touched her, he was wearing gloves. When he touches John Locke after Locke falls eight stories, it appears that Jacob brings him back to life. What does this all mean? Will it have implications for the characters he touched in the future?

Again, a few answers, but I hope we dive a bit deeper into how Jacob's touch drove Jack, Sawyer, Sun, Jin, Hurley, Kate, Sayid, and Locke to the island.

14. Love quadrangle – Who ends up with who? – Don’t pretend you don’t want to know. Are you a Jate (Jack and Kate), a Skate (Sawyer and Kate), a Suliet (Sawyer and Juliet), or a Jacket (Jack and Juliet)? Whoever you’re rooting for, let’s hope this complex love story gets wrapped up in Season 6.

I'm hoping for a Sawyer/Jack showdown tonight.

30. Christian Shephard – We know he’s more than just Jack father, but what’s going on with Christian Shephard? When Jack saw visions of his father during Season 1, were they really visions or has something possessed Christian’s body? Why does Christian lure Claire into the jungle? Why does Christian appear in Jacob’s cabin?

Recap: Season 6, Episode 4 (The Substitute)

Hello fellow Losties! For my fellow Michiganders, I hope you all braved and survived the snow today. Days like this make me want to move to a tropical island, no matter how many smoke monsters there are inhabiting the land.

Well, can you believe we're a night away from the 5th episode of this season? I'm super excited, and to get ready I rewatched Season 6, Episode 4 (The Substitute) so I could bring you the latest and greatest in The Strange, The Kick-Ass, and the Hilarious.

Off The Island

The Strange
1. When Helen is complaining to John Locke about the stresses of planning their wedding, she says that she wishes they could have a shot-gun style wedding in Vegas with her parents and his father. It's strange that she would allude to the fact that Locke has a relationship with his father, since in the old reality Locke's father was responsible for his paralysis.
2. Unlike Jack and Kate before him, John Locke doesn't seem to recognize any of the other Losties, not even just a bit.
3. It appears that this John Locke has a fundamental philosophy shift from the John Locke before him. The old John Locke was a man of faith, this new John Locke doesn't believe in things like miracles and is much more realistic.

The Kick-Ass
1. Locke and Helen are together. That's great!
2. John's interactions with Hurley, Rose, and Ben.
3. When John asks Helen to open his suitcase, and she just stares at the knives. Wouldn't you be freaked out if your soon-to-be-husband had a suitcase full of knives? She didn't even look surprised.
4. I'd want Ben Linus to teach me European History, anyone else with me?

The Hilarious
1. Hugo calls Randy Nations a "douche". I didn't know you could say that word on primetime television.
2. John Locke teaching middle schoolers reproductive biology.

On The Island

The Strange
1. The young blonde boy with blood on his hands. Who is he? Why can't Richard see him, but Flocke and Sawyer can?
2. The wall of names and numbers. Where's Kate's number? Is Kwon Jin, Sun, or Ji-Yeon?

The Kick-Ass
1. Getting to see the island from Smokey's POV was super sweet.
2. Sawyer's reference to Of Mice and Men. Also one of my personal favorites.

The Hilarious
1. Sawyer's line about putting pants on.
2. Flocke's reference to an "inside joke" when he tosses the white stone into the ocean.
3. Why wouldn't Jacob keep the list of candidates in a much more practical place? Say, a piece of paper in his pocket?

In Honor of Tiger Woods, LOST and Affairs

It's been dubbed, "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Yesterday, Tiger Woods broke his silence and stunned the world by admitting he had multiple affairs (I'm dripping with sarcasm here, folks). LOST has seen it's fair share of affairs, so let's revisit some of the most explosive cheating in LOST history.

Sun cheated on Jin with the bald-headed Jae Lee as we saw in Season 3, Episode 2 (The Glass Ballerina). Sun learned English is hopes of moving to the United States with Jae Lee. Jae Lee thinks the affair as been uncovered and throws himself out of a hotel window to his death, landing on Jin's car. There were questions surrounding the father of Sun's baby, but we learned that she did, in fact, conceive on the island, making Jin the father of Ji-Yeon.

On the island, Juliet is 'the other women' for married Goodwin Stanhope. It was love at first sight, as they fell in love as Juliet was cleaning Goodwin's chemical burn in Season 4, Episode 6 (The Other Woman). Soon, they're humping on the beach, but are found out by Goodwin's wife. Ben Linus, jealous of Juliet and Goodwin, sends Goodwin to join the Tailies when the Oceanic 815 crash landed on the island. Brash Ana Lucia killed him a few days later.

Jack Shephard has been affected by infidelity in many ways. His first wife, Sarah Shephard, leaves Jack for a man she's been having an affair with, which leaves Jack heartbroken and paranoid. Paranoia also leads Jack to believe that Kate is having an affair, or at least unnatural feelings for Sawyer still, and causes their breakup.

Other notable cases of cheating:

1. Claire Littleton is the result of an affair. Her father, Christian Shephard, was married to Margo Shephard when he slept with Claire's mother Carol Littleton.

2. Kate Austen is also the result of an affair. Her mother, Daine Janssen, had an affair with Wayne Janssan when she was in a relationship with Sam Austen.

3. Sawyer's mother had an affair with Mr. Sawyer (Anthony Cooper) and conned her out of $38,000 causing the death of Sawyer's parents.

4. Walt's mother, Susan Lloyd, had an affair with Brian Porter and eventually left Michael Dawson for Brian.

Lots of cheating going on in the world of LOST.

Michael Emerson is Everywhere!

Episode 6:04 (The Substitute)

Are you still on Cloud Nine? Because I am! I can't seem to come down from the high last night's episode provided. It was AMAZING and absolutely goes on my list of Top Ten LOST episodes of all time.

A few trivial things about last night. The song Sawyer was playing last night was Search and Destroy by Iggy Pop and the Stooges. The song makes reference to hydrogen bombs. Hurley said 'dude' twice and I'd be okay if Sawyer never put pants on again. Next week's episode will be the 108th produced hour of LOST. I'm expecting big things from such an important number.

There were so many answers last night, I'm going to get right down to it.

HELLO! I came out of my pants Sawyer-style when we saw the names and numbers written on the rock wall. We still don't know what the numbers mean, though according to Flocke, "Jacob had a thing for numbers". We do know: Locke was 4, Hurley was 8, Sawyer was 15, Sayid was 16, Jack was 23, and Kwon (not sure if it’s Sun or Jin) was 42. Any guesses if it was Sun or Jin? I'm going with Jin. I'm thinking if it were Sun, she would have flashed through time with Hurley, Sayid, Jack, and Kate when Ajira 316 crashed. Just a guess, though. Why wasn't Kate's name on the wall, and why didn't she have a number?

6. Man In Black (Jacob’s Nemesis) – Since Walt and Locke played backgammon in the pilot episode; fans have known that black and white hold symbolic significance in the world of LOST. So when Jacob’s nemesis shows up on the beach wearing black while Jacob is wearing white, we knew that the scene was significant. But who, exactly is the man in black, why does he want to kill Jacob? How did he get to the island? Is he really bad, as his black shirt leads us to believe? How does he have the ability to become ‘Flocke’? Also, is there a biblical connection to the story of Jacob and Esau, in which two brothers fight for ‘birthright’ to rule over their father’s wealth and authority? Seems awful likely to this humble fan.

Again, not a lot of answers, per say, but I can't get the image of the white and black rocks on the scale in the cave. What we did learn, he doesn't think the island needs protecting, he's never read Of Mice and Men, and he still wants to go home. Also, Richard Alpert is terrified of him.

Back to the black and white rocks. Were they the same ones found in the pockets of Adam and Eve? They were definitely similar. Are Adam and Eve two people who were forced to "play the game" on behalf of Jacob and Flocke? Are Adam and Eve two people who take over the roles of Jacob and Flocke? I don't know, but it's intriguing. I'm sure those rocks and the scale mean something very important to the island game.

11. What does it mean when Jacob touches you? - In Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident), we see Jacob touch eight of our favorite Losties (Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sayid, Hurley, Sun, and Jin) sometime during their life. Apparently he touches you if your name is written on a rock wall on the island. Now, if this gives you any kind of "specialness", I don't know, but it's got to mean something! I heard a theory the other day, that I don't necessarily believe, but I found it to be very interesting. Someone postulated that when Jacob touches you, part of him goes into you, making him immortal as long as all the people he's touched are alive. (Think: Harry Potter horcrux). I'm not sure it's that easy, but I do think Jacob's touch does mean something extra special.

18. Why can’t Ben kill Widmore? – In Season 4, Episode 9 (The Shape of Things to Come), Ben travels off the island Ben visits Widmore in his bedroom in the middle of the night. Widmore asks Ben if he’s come to kill him and Ben replies “we both know I can’t do that.” Why would this be? What is the relationship between these two characters and how will it end? Is one man good and the other man bad? Does the Widmore/Ben relationship shadow the Jacob/Man in Black relationship? I’m sure we’ll learn more about this relationship in Season 6.

Are the rules in the Ben/Widmore game the same as the rules in the Jacob/MIB game? The answer appears to be 'yes'. We know that Flocke isn't allowed to kill Jacob, but we're still not clear on the rules. No little bloody blonde boy, I don't know the rules! SO TELL ME WHAT THEY ARE!

20. Aaron Littleton – is he meaningful to the island? – Born on the island in Season 1, Episode 20 (Do No Harm) Aaron Littleton has had a rough life. Bound for adoption, injected in-utero with the weird Dharma vaccine, kidnapped by Danielle, left in the jungle by his mother, taken back to the United States to be raised by Kate and Drunk-bearded Jack, and now in the loving care of Claire’s mother, rumors abound that Aaron is a very special little boy. Biblically speaking, Aaron is the son of Jacob, making him a significant piece of the island puzzle. Some even think Widmore is Aaron’s paternal grandfather, making the island connection to Aaron even stronger. Others speculate that Aaron died in-utero and was “resurrected” by Jacob’s nemesis. Still others think he’s the Adam of Adam and Eve. Much speculation for such a little boy!
I'm going on the record. That young blond boy that appeared to Sawyer and Flocke? That's Aaron. I don't know how he got there and I don't know why he was bloody, but I really think that was him.

25. Who does Illana work for? – Illana (no last name) crashes on the island in 2007 after escorting Sayid on Ajira 316. Once the plane has crashed she and a few other survivors (including Bram) stuff John Locke’s corpse into a giant metal box and begin wandering around the island to find Jacob’s cabin. When they find Jacob’s cabin deserted, Illana takes the group to the ‘shadow of the statue’ where she shows John Locke’s body to Richard Alpert. We’ve seen both Illana and Bram before, off the island. Illana is visited by Jacob in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) where she says she will ‘help him’. Bram throws Miles into a van in Season 5, Episode 13 (Some Like it Hoth) and tells him not to work for Widmore. So how are they connected to Jacob and the island? How does Illana know her way around the island enough to find Jacob’s cabin and the statue? Who do they work for, who are the “good guys”?

I'd like to add a question into this Illana section: How does she know FREAKING everything?

39. Frank Lapidus is a candidate for what? – Lapidus first arrives on the island as a member of the freighter team, but we later learn that he was suppose to be the pilot of the ill-fated Oceanic 815. He brings the Oceanic Six to the freighter via the helicopter and returns to the island as the pilot of Ajira 316. When Illana’s team takes off in search of Richard Alpert and Jacob, Illana asks Lapidus the infamous question, “What lies in the shadow of the statue?”. Lapidus doesn’t have the slightest idea, so she knocks him out. When he wakes up, the group tells him he may be “a candidate” and that he can come with them. What the heck is he a candidate for?

Well, we now know that Frank wasn't a candidate, after all. Ohh, poor Lapidus. (At least, I didn't see his name, did you?) But we do know what the candidacy means. A candidate is someone who could take over Jacob's role as protector of the island. Good to know, thanks for clearing that up LOST.

Great episode. Something to think about. This season's episodes are taking the same pattern as Season 1. The first/second episodes in Seasons 1 and 6 were about multiple characters. The third episode of Seasons 1 and 6 were Kate-centric episodes. The fourth episode of Seasons 1 and 6 were Locke-centric episodes. If this pattern follows, next week will focus on (highlight for answer and next week's episode title): JACK! Season 6, Episode 5 is called "Lighthouse". Very interesting.

It's here! The day I wait all week for, wading through the crappy Wednesdays and Sundays and Mondays and all the days in between for the glorious feeling of a LOST episode just hours away.

Tonight's episode promises to be full of excitement. Just the name has me in knots. Season 6, Episode 4 is called (highlight for answer) The Substitute and is John Locke-centric. Is there anything better than a Locke episode? (Maybe a Desmond one!) TV Guide has a one sentence description: "Locke seeks help to support his cause." WHOA! It's already blowing my mind.

Anyway, down to business. Knowing the little we know about this episode, I'd like to recap the few 42 questions I'd like to see addressed tonight. (Warning: I will always like Question #1, each and every week, until I know what the darn numbers mean!)

Oh wait. Speaking of the numbers, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, via their official LOST podcast, said, unequivocally, that the numbers are NOT a date or a time. Good to know.

1. The numbers – First appearing in Episode 18 of Season 1 (Numbers), 4-8-15-16-23-42 have been part of LOST folklore from the very beginning. They help Hurley win the lottery, they must be typed into the hatch computer every 108 minutes or the world will end, they appear on Danielle’s map, they are the serial number on the door of The Swan, and they drive Leonard crazy, but what are their origins? With the Losties stuck in 1977, could Hurley actually be tied to the origin of the numbers that later drive him mad?

I warned you. TELL ME WHAT THEY MEAN! I've been waiting 5 seasons!

2. Claire Littleton – Our favorite island mother has been missing since Season 4, Episode 10 (Something Nice Back Home). We know she saw her father, Christian Shephard, leaves Aaron behind, and wanders off in the jungle night with her dead dad but we don’t know why! What happened to Claire that could take her from doting mother to jungle wander? Why did she leave Aaron behind? We see her in Season 4, Episode 11 (Cabin Fever) seemingly relaxed and Aaron-free sitting in Jacob’s cabin with Christian, but again we receive no explanation of why she’s left her child behind. Let’s hope Season 6 gives us some Claire related clarity!

After last week's episode, how can I not want to know more about Claire? I doubt we'll see her this week, but I've been wrong before.

4. Flocke – As we know from Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) the Locke that returns to the island, is not the Locke that left the island. Commonly referred to as “Flocke” (fake + Locke = Flocke), he convinces Ben to kill Jacob, but not before Jacob recognizes Flocke as his nemesis. Who is this Flocke and how did he shift shape to look like John Locke? We know he doesn’t just take over Locke’s body, as Illana’s crew is hauling the body all over the island in search of Richard Alpert, so how exactly does he become John Locke? And does Jacob’s nemesis choose John Locke anyway? For how long has he been John Locke? Many fans postulate that Locke’s been Flocke since Ben shot him in Season 3, Episode 22 (Through the Looking Glass) , but we still don’t know for certain! Surely Flocke related mysteries will be resolved in Season 6.

AND

6. Man In Black (Jacob’s Nemesis) – Since Walt and Locke played backgammon in the pilot episode; fans have known that black and white hold symbolic significance in the world of LOST. So when Jacob’s nemesis shows up on the beach wearing black while Jacob is wearing white, we knew that the scene was significant. But who, exactly is the man in black, why does he want to kill Jacob? How did he get to the island? Is he really bad, as his black shirt leads us to believe? How does he have the ability to become ‘Flocke’? Also, is there a biblical connection to the story of Jacob and Esau, in which two brothers fight for ‘birthright’ to rule over their father’s wealth and authority? Seems awful likely to this humble fan.

The two are a package deal, so teach me more about both please, LOST.

39. 40. Who’s coming? - When Jacob bites the dust at the hands of Ben in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) he’s last words to Flocke are “They’re coming”. Then he burns to death. I’ve got no idea who’s coming, do you?

Did Jacob mean the Oceanic 6? Is that's the "they" in "they're coming"? Tell me tonight, please.

Recap: Season 6, Episode 3 (What Kate Does)

Ah, here we are again. Sweet Monday. I don't have many good things to say about the dreaded day that begins another work week, but at least we're one day closer to another glorious episode of LOST and it's time for another edition my favorite posting, The Strange, Kick -Ass, and Hilarious: Last Week in LOST.

Off the Island

The Strange
1. When the taxi carrying Kate and Claire is stopped at the light while leaving the airport, Kate sees Jack out the window. She looks at him like she recognizes him from somewhere, and not just from the airplane.
2. Dr. Ethan Goodspeed. Why's he off the island? Why is his name Ethan Goodspeed and not Ethan Rom?
3. Claire screaming out Aaron's name.
4. The date "10-22-2004" on Claire's ultrasound. Some think it may be Claire's due date, not the date of the ultrasound. I've never been pregnant, so I don't know, but I still think it's strange the date of the ultrasound wouldn't be on the picture.

The Kick -Ass
1. Kate's alias, Joan Hart. The actress who plays Kate's mother on LOST, Beth Broderick, also played Aunt Zelda on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Melissa Joan Hart played Sabrina on that show.

The Hilarious
1. Arzt in the middle of the street with his luggage. Could that guy be funnier?
2. Why the hell didn't Kate ditch the taxi cab when she was at the mechanic shop? Didn't she know the cops would be looking for a FREAKING taxi?

On the Island

The Strange
1. Umm, Sayid's alive. Or is he a zombie? Did he actually ever die? So many new questions!
2. Those weird tests Dogen preformed on Sayid. First the ash, then something similar to electrodes, and top it all off with a flaming hot iron poker. What's up with that?
3. The poisonous pill that Jack attempted to swallow. Is Sayid that much of a threat that he needs to die, again?
4. The baseball on Dogen's desk. Who plays baseball in times like these!?
5. What's "claimed" Sayid and Claire?

The Kick-Ass
1. Josh Holloway's performance on the beach. I cried about one hundred tears with him. I'll be shouting "Emmy for Josh" from my balcony this fall!
2. Island Claire's return! Did you see the Rousseau in her eyes? Bitch looked crazy. Plus, her hair looked awful. That straw has to be a wig!

The Hilarious
1. Miles' line about Hurley being in charge, "So that's great". Now that Sawyer, the resident smart-ass is under the weather, we can depend on Miles for the snappy one-liners.
2. Aldo. What the heck is up that guy's ass? Kate butted you with a gun like three years ago, get over it!

Love and LOST

Happy Valentine's Day LOST Lovers! I hope you've all had a wonderful Sunday and are pumped for a new week in LOST. I know I am.

One last quick note on the new version of The LOST Loophole. As you can see, there is a new edition on the left side of your screen. Since this blog is devoted to the 42 questions I'd like to see answered before LOST is over, I thought it would be nice to be able to see an abbreviated version of the list at all times. So there it is! You can also always view the full detailed list on the blog by clicking the entry title "LOST Questions TBA".

Anyone have a minute to rewatch Season 6, Episode 3 (What Kate Does)? If you did, you may be wondering a bit about the baseball located on Dogen's desk. What the heck would Dogen want with a baseball? Well, I'm not sure if he and Lennon are going to take some time out of the day to play some catch, but I do know that there are 108 double stitches on standard baseballs, like the one found on Dogen's desk. WHOA!

Down to business. In honor of the loviest day of the year, I'm going to take a minute to rank my top five favorite LOST couples. So cuddle up with some DHARMA chocolate and enjoy.

5. Jack Shephard and Kate Austen -- Some of you may question why I've put them in last place as their love (or unlove, depending on the hour) is one of the central themes of LOST, but to be frank, I don't really like them together. When they first met in the jungle in Season 1, Episode 1 (Pilot) Jack depends on Kate to stitch him up and he teaches her to control her nerves by counting to five, I was rooting for them. But as time has gone on the relationship has continued to grow more complicated and, well, messed up. They did have some good moments, so let's revisit some of them. In Season 1, Episode 24 (Exodus, Part 2) Jack lies to Kate to protect her from having to carry explosive dynamite across the island (what a guy!). What about the time when Jack saves Ben's life, upon Kate's request, so the Other's wouldn't kill Sawyer in Season 3, Episode 6 (I Do)? That was very selfless of Jack. Jack comes to Kate's rescue in court during Season 4, Episode 4 (Eggtown) and they get engaged in Season 4, Episode 10 (Something Nice Back Home). But that's about it for the nice moments. Jack's paranoia and alcoholism pulls them apart off the island and their return to the island in Season 5 doesn't make things any better. What's in store for this dramatic couple in Season 6? I've got no idea.

4. Hurley Reyes and Libby Smith - It may have been short, but boy was it sweet. Season 2, Episode 18 (Dave) is the most Hurley/Libby centered episode of LOST. They exercise together, Hurley and Libby try to take on his food-related issues, and they kiss on top of a pretty dramatic island cliff. We also learn that the two once both took up residence in the Santa Rosa Mental Institution, but we're still not sure why Libby was there. Unfortunately, only two short episodes later in Season 2, Episode 20 (Two for the Road) Libby dies at the hands of Michael while getting a blanket for a picnic with Hurley. Sad moment for all fans rooting for Hurley to get a piece of ass. I've heard rumors that there will be a pay-off this season for all of us still scratching our heads about Libby.

3. James "Sawyer" Ford and Juliet Burke - From the moment Sawyer asked Juliet is she was "screwing" Jack yet and she responded "No, are you?" in Season 3, Episode 23 (Through the Looking Glass), fans around the world knew that the quick-tongued Sawyer had met his match. It took a freighter explosion, time travel, and polyester jumpsuits to bring the two together, but I'm sure glad they did. Much like my #4 couple pick, Sawyer and Juliet's relationship was too-short lived. Juliet's ultimate sacrifice for Sawyer in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident), sealed me as a Suliet fan and her death was an emotional one for those who love love. Recently, we learned in Season 6, Episode 3 (What Kate Does) that Sawyer was planning to purpose to Juliet, but didn't have a chance before her death. Let's hope they "go Dutch" sometime soon.

2. Jin and Sun Kwon - I'll be the first to admit I was not a fan of Jin during Season 1, but who was? I believe their struggles in the beginning made their relationship that much sweeter for the viewers to watch. They've been separated multiple times throughout the series, beginning with Jin's raft trip in Season 1, his capture by the Tailies early in Season 2, his trip to the freighter in Season 4 and his arrival in 1977 in Season 5, but they times they were together were wonderful. We learned that the son of a fisherman and the daughter of an automotive giant met in South Korea a the Seoul Gateway Hotel and were married shortly after meeting. Sun's father drives a wedge between the couple and Sun has an affair with a bald guy. She thinks about leaving Jin, even learning English behind his back. Things are rocky on the island to begin with, but later they conceive a child and begin planning their life off the island together. We all know things don't work out that way for them. My heart was ripped out during Season 4, Episode 13 (There's no Place Like Home, Part 2) when Sun screams after she watches the freighter that is carrying Jin explode. We know that they're now in the same year (finally!) and I believe that one of the biggest viewer pay-offs will come when the two are reunited this season.

1. Desmond Hume and Penny (Widmore) Hume - Of course Desmond and Penny would be my number one choice! The pair has had my heart since the very beginning. Desmond and Penny were torn apart when Desmond decided that he couldn't be with her due to the urging of Eloise Hawking. Desmond spends the next few years training for a trip around the world, to prove his worth to Penny's father, Charles Widmore. When Desmond goes missing on the island, Penny spends unlimited time and resources to try to find him. In Season 4, Episode 5 (The Constant) Desmond is able to place a phone call to Penny on the freighter and the connection saves his life. I can't watch that scene without weeping uncontrollably. The two are reunited by the end of Season 4 and spend Season 5 together making baby Charlie on Our Mutal Friend, Desmond's boat. Season 6, Episode 1 (LA X) brought us a glimpse of alternate-reality Desmond with a wedding ring, but is he still married to Penny? We don't know, but I sure hope so.

Revisiting the LOST Dead

I hope you're all enjoying the visual updates to the blog. I'm trying to make it a bit more visually appealing, which will be an everlasting process I'm sure. One thing I would like to point out, is that under each post there is a new option for commenting. There are three boxes, one for interesting, one for fun, one for informative. If you could take a minute to mark which you feel each day's post is after reading it, it will help me gauge how readers are reading the blog, and help me make The LOST Loophole better for you!

I hope everyone had a chance to catch some of the Opening Olympic Ceremonies last night, they were pretty awesome. In celebration of Canada, I'd like to give a shout out to our favorite Canadian cast member, Evangeline Lilly, who was born in Alberta, Canada. She attended the University of British Columbia, so she's no stranger to Vancouver. I hope Evie, as she's affectionately known on the set, will have some time to take pride in her home country over the next two weeks.

Last night's blog got me thinking a lot about the dead Losties and who may be making a return this season. Many fans have been calling Season 6 the "Zombie" season, a nickname based on the assumption that we will be seeing a lot of dead characters before the show ends in May. I thought it would be nice to have a comprehensive list of those who have lost their fictional lives over the past five seasons.

This list comes from my recently purchased copy of LOST's Buried Treasures, 3rd Edition by Lynnette Porter and David Lavery.

The list appears to be in quasi-alphabetical order. When a name is not available, a description of the character who has died will take place. I've italicized the ones that have already appeared in Season 6, and bolded and made red (bold is a bit hard to see on here) those I think will show up again.

Thoughts on The Sickness

I'm still letting this last episode sink in, and as time goes on, I can't stop thinking about Claire, Sayid, and who knows who else (Rousseau, Christian Shephard, Aaron perhaps?), all of whom have been "claimed". What does this all mean? I'm baffled by the idea that the island sickness, first introduced to us by Rousseau in Season One, Episode Nine (Solitary) is connected to this idea of becoming "claimed" by something that gets into your heart. What exactly has "claimed" these people and how did they become "claimed"?

When did Claire become "claimed"? Was she traveling through time with the rest of us last season? Is she going to shoot Jin!?

Any thoughts on this apparent Zombie-like illness?

In other news, Carlton Cuse tweeted late on Wednesday that they have officially begun writing the final episode of LOST....EVER. Damon Lindelof tweeted today that writing the last episode is like eating a bittersweet box of chocolates. He also tweeted, and I quote, "Never put baby in a corner. And by "baby", I mean LOST. I'm not sure what that means, but it did make me giggle a bit.

Anyhow, I received the following from an email from my friend and fellow Lostie Amber, and I just thought it was too good not to share.

LOST Characters Explain How To Make a Sandwich on the Island:

Jack
1. Gather ingredients
2. Point gun at ingredients and shout “HOW DO I MAKE A SANDWICH OUT OF YOU?!?!?”
3. Breathe heavily through your nose as though you were about to hit ingredients
4. Give up and make the sandwich yourself, and eat it bitterly

Kate
1. Make separate sandwiches, one with peanut butter and one with jelly
2. Take a bite of the peanut butter sandwich, declaring it the best
3. Take a bite of the jelly sandwich, declaring it the best
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 ad infinitum
5. Follow peanut butter or jelly sandwich into grave danger

Sawyer
1. Throw the jar of jelly at wall, sneering “I don’t need no sandwich”

Okay, quick post today, but I want to bring you something I'm completely in love with in the world of LOST.

Enter: The Others band, who write and preform songs based on episodes of LOST. Some of my favorite titles include: Destiny is a Fickle Bitch, Fish Biscuits, Love Quadrangle, and I Heart my Shih-Tzu. Episode 6:03 (What Kate Does)

Holy FREAKING crap! That's what I was saying to myself last night after the episode, and I'm still saying it 23 hours later.

I'll be honest, I've never really loved Kate-centric episodes, so I wasn't pumped for last night's episode, but I was wrong. Really, I guess, when it all boils down, the great parts of What Kate Does had very little to do with Kate's character.

So, it's Wednesday, which means it's time to visit our 42 questions and last night's episode. Let's see what we learned this week.

In other news, according to LOSTPEDIA.COM, "The ultrasound that Claire examines is labeled with the date and time October 22, 2004 at 9:29:42am, one month after the crash of flight 815 in the original timeline." Weird, huh? Claire surely wasn't sitting on that bench waiting for someone to pick her up for a month. Is this just an oversight by the production staff, or did the new alternate-reality 815 land a month later than the original plane crashed?

Oh, one more thing about this episode. It was FULL of Rousseau references, yes? Her traps on the island, the way Sayid was tied up on Dogen's table just like Rousseau tied him up, Claire looking all Rousseau like. Amazing.

Down to business:

2. Claire Littleton – Our favorite island mother has been missing since Season 4, Episode 10 (Something Nice Back Home). We know she saw her father, Christian Shephard, leaves Aaron behind, and wanders off in the jungle night with her dead dad but we don’t know why! What happened to Claire that could take her from doting mother to jungle wander? Why did she leave Aaron behind? We see her in Season 4, Episode 11 (Cabin Fever) seemingly relaxed and Aaron-free sitting in Jacob’s cabin with Christian, but again we receive no explanation of why she’s left her child behind. Let’s hope Season 6 gives us some Claire related clarity!

This was my holy freaking crap moment. Claire looking all crazy-French-Danielle-like in the jungle was just too much! What happened to her out there? What "claimed" Claire's heart as Dogen alluded to? Was it Smokey? Oh goodness, I have to know now!

Alternate - reality Claire was also pretty great, though I'm not sure what's in store for her in the future. She's all alone in LA, without anybody to parent Aaron, and crazy Ethan as her OB. Things aren't looking so great for Alternate-reality Claire, are they?

But that's okay, I hope we get to see Claire in every single episode from this point on. Won't happen, but I can dream!

14. Love quadrangle – Who ends up with who? – Don’t pretend you don’t want to know. Are you a Jate (Jack and Kate), a Skate (Sawyer and Kate), a Suliet (Sawyer and Juliet), or a Jacket (Jack and Juliet)? Whoever you’re rooting for, let’s hope this complex love story gets wrapped up in Season 6.

Man, Sawyer's pretty messed up over Juliet isn't he? So what will this mean for Kate and Sawyer? I don't know about you, but I don't think she followed him just so he could help her find Claire. She's pretty in love with him, and it's obvious. But man, when Jack pulled Kate aside before she left the Temple, I thought he was going to lay a big, juicy, kiss on her or tell her sometime really meaningful. But, alas, Jack just doesn't seem capable of expressing his emotions, which I think may keep Kate and Jack from ever being together.

When Sawyer and Kate were sitting on the dock outside the barracks, I felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. Josh Holloway did some of the most amazing, one-teared acting I've ever seen on the show.

I'm beginning to think the Love Quadrangle, minus one, is going to be a consistent part of this final season.

27. What happens in the Temple? - In Season 5, Episode 11 (Whatever Happened, Happened) Richard Alpert takes a dying young Ben Linus into The Temple to be healed. Richard tells Kate that Ben will lose his innocents and will always be “one of them”. The Temple also appears to be the home of the smoke monster. There are extensive walls built around The Temple to protect it and tunnels underground leading to it. So who build The Temple and what is it used for? What happens inside The Temple that caused young Ben to become the Ben we know today?

Sayid is "claimed", yes or no? The murky water possessed him with something dark and strange, yes or no? I've got no idea if I'm supposed to believe the Temple Others or not. Anyone else confused?

Also, how long are we going to be held captive in the Temple?

So, only three questions were really addressed this episode, but getting to see Claire on the island again was so explosive, I don't really care about how many questions were answered. I can't wait till next week, and I really hope they pick the Claire story line right back up where they left off this week. Chances of this happening, probably slim to none!

The next episode is titled (highlight for answer): The Substitute, that is rumored to be a Locke-centric episode. I CAN'T WAIT!

In other news, last week a character named Bram was impaled with a stake, which killed him. Bram=vampires=stakes to the heart Oh, the irony. I love you LOST.

Down to business. I often get the question, "I want to start watching LOST, but I feel like it it too late. What episodes should I watch so I can understand the show?". Entertainment Weekly's February 5th edition, took a stab at answering that question with their list, 10 Episodes You Need to Watch to Catch Up. Here's the list.

Okay, we're all ready for episode two, airing tonight. I thought I'd kick it back to the 42 questions and list a few that I'd really like to hear about tonight.

Here's my thinking. Tonight's episode is titled: (highlight for text, this section has been SPOILER-PROOFED!) "What Kate Does". According to TV Guide: "Kate's on the run while Jack must do something that could jeopardize the life of a friend." (Does Jack have any friends left? So we're looking at a Kate centric episode. Below are the 7 questions I'd like to dip into tonight. I don't except that the creators can fully dip into 7 questions in 1 hour, but I'd like to at least get some pieces.

1. The numbers – First appearing in Episode 18 of Season 1 (Numbers), 4-8-15-16-23-42 have been part of LOST folklore from the very beginning. They help Hurley win the lottery, they must be typed into the hatch computer every 108 minutes or the world will end, they appear on Danielle’s map, they are the serial number on the door of The Swan, and they drive Leonard crazy, but what are their origins? With the Losties stuck in 1977, could Hurley actually be tied to the origin of the numbers that later drive him mad?

2. Claire Littleton – Our favorite island mother has been missing since Season 4, Episode 10 (Something Nice Back Home). We know she saw her father, Christian Shephard, leaves Aaron behind, and wanders off in the jungle night with her dead dad but we don’t know why! 7. Richard Alpert – If you have a pulse and are a fan of LOST, you’ve got to be wondering what the heck is going on with Richard Alpert (and I’m not talking about his guyliner)! He claims that Jacob gave him the ability to never age (can I get that in a bottle?), but we’re still not sure why. What brought Richard to the island? Why did Jacob select him to be his ‘advisor’? Does he have a relationship with Jacob’s nemesis? How old is this guy? One of my burning Richard-related questions comes from Season 3, Episode 20 (The Man Behind the Curtain). Richard meets young-Ben in the jungle, and this is the only time Richard’s appearance is different. His hair is long, his clothes are disheveled – what’s up with this? Why isn’t he clean cut Richard we’ve seen ever since? Weird. Let’s hope for some Alpert back story in Season 6.

14. Love quadrangle – Who ends up with who? – Don’t pretend you don’t want to know. Are you a Jate (Jack and Kate), a Skate (Sawyer and Kate), a Suliet (Sawyer and Juliet), or a Jacket (Jack and Juliet)? Whoever you’re rooting for, let’s hope this complex love story gets wrapped up in Season 6.

20. Aaron Littleton – is he meaningful to the island? – Born on the island in Season 1, Episode 20 (Do No Harm) Aaron Littleton has had a rough life. Bound for adoption, injected in-utero with the weird Dharma vaccine, kidnapped by Danielle, left in the jungle by his mother, taken back to the United States to be raised by Kate and Drunk-bearded Jack, and now in the loving care of Claire’s mother, rumors abound that Aaron is a very special little boy. Biblically speaking, Aaron is the son of Jacob, making him a significant piece of the island puzzle. Some even think Widmore is Aaron’s paternal grandfather, making the island connection to Aaron even stronger. Others speculate that Aaron died in-utero and was “resurrected” by Jacob’s nemesis. Still others think he’s the Adam of Adam and Eve. Much speculation for such a little boy!

33. The Horse from Kate’s Past – In Season 2, Episode 9 (What Kate Did) Kate encounters a horse from her past on the island. She thinks she is crazy, but when she sees the horse again later in the episode, Sawyer is with her and confirms that there is, in fact, a black horse in front of them. While this moment is seemingly unimportant, the creators keep revisiting the moment in clip shows, the kind that are meant to help viewers ‘catch up’ with the important moments of LOST. Does the horse mean something more than we first thought?

40. Who’s coming? - When Jacob bites the dust at the hands of Ben in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) he’s last words to Flocke are “They’re coming”. Then he burns to death. I’ve got no idea who’s coming, do you?

Recap of Season 6, Episodes 1 and 2 (LA X)

We're just about 24 hours away from the next all new episode of LOST season 6. Let's recap the happenings of Season 6, Episode 1 (LA X) to prep for tomorrow night. I know we all watched the episode, so instead of recapping the entire episode, I'm just going to write about the strange/kick-ass/funny things that happened.

OFF THE ISLAND

The Strange

1. Cindy gives Jack one bottle of vodka, not two.
2. Rose reassures Jack, not vice versa.
3. Jack has a cut on his neck.
4. Desmond is on the plane, wearing a wedding ring.
5. The island is underwater, with the Dharma shark and barracks.
6. No Shannon on da plane.
7. The inspector at the airport calls Sun, Ms. Paik, not Mrs. Kwon. We also can't see any wedding rings. Sun says she doesn't know English, and maybe she's not lying this time.
8. Christian Shephard's body is missing.

The Kick-Ass

1. When Kate comes out of the bathroom on the airplane, she falls into Jack and steals his pen. Even in handcuffs she's still a criminal.
2. Hurley is the "luckiest man alive".
3. A much happier John Locke. Maybe he really did go on the walkabout?
4. Jack's interaction with John Locke in the Oceanic office.
5. The rebirth of Claire's character. Is she pregnant? Was she even on the plane? Will they ever find a wig that doesn't look like straw?

The Funny

1. Kate's suppose to eat her lasagna without a fork or knife. WTF?
2. Arzt and Frogurt make a reappearance.
3. When you can't get a door open on an airplane, just let Sayid kick it in.
4. Kate's running through the airport and has to escape through a locked door. She gains access with an employee code, but the door leads her to an area that's packed with people. WTF LOST?

ON THE ISLAND

The Strange

1. Those weird people in the Temple including Dogen.
2. Keeping Smokey out with the ash.
3. Richard Alpert in chains.

The Kick-ass

1. Juilet's last words, "It worked".
2. Flocke's big reveal. "I'm sorry you had to see me like that."

The Funny

1. Sawyer asking for chains to save Juilet's life, when chains essentially killed her. Oh, the irony.
2. Hurley trying to shoot a gun.
3. Breaking the Ankh in half. Very dramatic.
4. The taste of English on Dogen's tongue. Gross.

Hope this puts a few things in your mind for tomorrow night fellow Losties. I'm excited for the next episode!

Special Superbowl Edition of The LOST Loophole

Also, Tim caught the Dharma logo on the shark during the "underwater island scene", did you? Very cool!

Speaking of underwater island, that's my burning question of the day. Did the hydrogen bomb explosion put the island underwater? Or was it something else? I've got no idea. You guys?

In other news, Sayid was held underwater in the murky Temple water for 1 minute, 8 seconds.

Now down to business.

In honor of the Superbowl kicking off at 6:25 tonight, I'm going to feature piece of LOST that mirror my favorite parts of the most watched game of the year.

1. Football (duh) - Season 3, Episode 13 (The Man From Tallahassee) brings loyal viewers a glimpse of Jack's life in New Otherton after he fixed Ben and freed Kate and Sawyer. We see him tossing the football with my personal favorite other, Mr. Friendly. Remember how upset Kate, Sayid, and John Locke were to see Jack smiling and laughing in his new J. Crew clothes tossing the pig skin with an Other? I was pretty disturbed too, but if I had to play football with an Other, it would definitely be Tom Friendly.

2. Commercials - In honor of the great marketing that takes place on Superbowl Sunday, I bring you a Mr. Cluck's commercial that premiered at Comic Con 2009 this summer. Enjoy Hurley's Australian accent!

3. Beer - I know I'm going to drink some tonight, and I will think fondly back to one of my favorite LOST scenes of all time. Found in Season 3, Episode 10 (Tricia Tanaka is Dead) Hurley finds a Dharma van and in the back, sure enough, is some Dharma beer. Sawyer, Jin, and Hurley drink a few and Sawyer attempts to teach Jin some English words.

4. Honorary mention - The Puppy Bowl - If you've never watched the Puppy Bowl, you've got to tune in to Animal Planet tonight during half time to see the cutest damn thing you'll ever see. Animal Planet puts a few puppies on a fake field with some toys and food and they watch them run around and play. It's too much for words, and stay tuned for the "Bowl Cam", where you can watch the puppies lap up water after playing a tiring quarter of football. Anyhow, I digress. In honor of the Puppy Bowl, we've got to give a special LOST Loophole shout out to Bpo Bpo, Sun's Shar Pei. Bpo Bpo means "kiss" in Korean and I'd love a few kisses from that cutie. I'll root for the Shar Pei puppy tonight in honor of Bpo Bpo.

Jimmy Kimmel Loves LOST

I want to begin this blog with two reader shout outs:

First to Nate and Lindsay, for the insightful theory on the Temple and Sayid. Everyone should check it out, it is posted in the comments section of the post titled "LOST Questions TBA". Great work guys, and your ideas definately have my head spinning with questions and possibilities.

Second, good work Brett for finding another hidden image in the Entertainment Weekly photos. He found Ben standing on a badge, which looks like a LAPD badge. Good eye Brett.

In other news, Hurley said 'dude' 11 times during LA X, parts 1 and 2.

Question that is burning my brain today: Why was Desmond on the plane? Did he sail around the world, but since there was no island, he made it to Sidney? I'm not sure. What do you all think?

Burning answer of the day: According to LOSTPEDIA, the X in LA X stands for alternate reality. Apparently, the X is used in lots of comic books to stand for alternate reality. Good to know.

Now to the real business of the day. Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse were on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night, following the premiere episode of LOST. Jimmy asked them to play a game, "Coincidence or Not" and they obliged. I've listed the questions and answers below. Some answers are very exciting!

Question:
When we see Charlie on the plane in the season premiere, Desmond disappears.

Answer:
Coincidence, not intentional

Question:
We did not see Michael or Walt on the plane.

Answer:
"Fate", this was intentional

Question:
We did not see Shannon on the plane.

Answer:
Intentional

Question:
The premiere was on Groundhog's Day, and now we're seeing the same thing over again, but a bit different.

The space between LA and X in the season premiere title "LA X".

Answer:
Damon and Carlton joked that it was a typo, but then admitted it was absolutely intentional

The dinner on the plane was Lasagna.

Answer:
Coincidence, not intentional, and for the record it was "vegetarian lasagna"

On this flight Rose is calm and Jack is nervous, where as in the first flight Jack is calm and Rose is nervous.

Jack spills his vodka when he pours it on the plane.

Not a coincidence, and Damon/Carlton also pointed out that Cindy gave Jack one less bottle of vodka, which was also intentional

Umm, no.

So those were the questions, some funny, some very insightful. Watching Damon and Carlton is always a real treat, you can tell they love LOST just as much as the fans do.

LOST Updates and Guide from Entertainment Weekly

Happy Friday Losties!

I have a LOST update. The series finale will be on May 23, 2010, which is a Sunday. Plan accordingly.

Today I'm bringing you, straight from the January 29 Entertainment Weekly in my bathroom, the LOST guide created by Damon and Carlton. The pictures are pretty awesome and there are hidden images in most of them. I'm not sure if you'll be able to see the images, but I'll describe them under each picture. You can also click on the picture to see a much larger version. I think many of the hidden pics may hold clues to Season 6 secrets, so let's see if we can speculate any answers to the 42 questions based on this LOST guide.

Image One: A nice letter from Damon and Carlton. Let me know if you can't read it and I will transcribe it all for you.

Image Two: Jack, looking mighty fine and Kate, also looking pretty damn good. Under both Jack and Kate, upside down, is a cityscape. Also upside down between the two lovebirds is Claire, looking a bit forlorn. Under Jack, is a copy of his business card from St. Sebastian Hospital. This is the same card he gave John Locke in Season 6, Episode 1 (LA X). Above Kate is an airplane.

Image Three: Our friend Ben, looking evil, like usual. John Locke, or Flock, not sure which, is pictured in shadows on the opposite page. Behind Ben and Locke, you can see the logo for the Swan station, which is the first place the two ever met. As you can see, the entire page looks like water.

Image Four: Sayid, and beneath him, sideways is the Four-Toed statue reflected in what appears to be a skyscraper like building. In a skyscraper behind Sayid, there is a half a face. I'm not sure whose face it is, but my guess is John Locke, or Flocke, or Jacob. I actually have no idea, but I can tell you the eye is either green or blue. Hurley is on the opposite page. In his reflection, he is wearing a Mr. Cluck's T-shirt. Above Hurley, very lightly shadowed, is a face. Again, I've got no freaking idea whose face it is.

Image Five: Sawyer's face is above Juilet's face. Behind Sawyer is a cityscape, much like the one in Jack and Kate's picture. Juilet's face is in the clouds, and much fainter (is that a word?) than Sawyers. Foreshadowing her death? I think yes.

Image Six: Sun is in the background, looking away from Jin. In the background is an Oceanic plane, which appears to be landing on water. Behind the Oceanic plane is a billboard for Oceanic Airlines. On the opposite page, Jin is looking down, much closer to the camera than Sun is.

Final Image: My main man, Richard Alpert, standing up front, in color. Charlie, Faraday, Jacob, and Boone are standing behind him, in black and white. Behind Charlie and Faraday there are palm trees, apparently an island landscape. Behind Jacob and Boone is a cityscape. They appear to be standing on some brick like steps, which I think are the step at the temple.

Revisiting Past Episodes

On Monday Dave and I took a little "LOST" retreat and revisited a few episodes to prepare us for Season Six. We picked a few episodes a piece, with hopes that we'd watch ones that would give us hints towards the answers we are so desperately hoping for!

I chose to watch:

Season 1, Episode 18, Numbers - The episode introduces us to the numbers for the first time, and we follow Hurley on his journey to figure out where the numbers came from and how they got their "power". Plus, who doesn't love a good Hurley centered episode!

Season 2, Episode 15, Maternity Leave - We find out what happens to Claire when Ethan kidnaps her, and there is also lots of talk about the sickness, pregnancy issues, and the vaccine.

Season 5, Episode 16, The Incident - I just had to watch one more time before the premiere! I can't get enough of the first scene with Jacob and the Man in Black. It was a really nice way to launch into the new season.

Dave chose:

Season 1, Episode 6, House of the Rising Sun - Dave wanted to rewatch this episode because it's the first (and only) time we see Adam and Eve. I still have no idea who they are, but one thing I did catch was that Jack thinks the skeletons have been there for "40 or 50 years". So that would mean they died around 1954 - 1964. Could they be Others circa Jughead time?

Season 5, Episode 12, Dead is Dead - Dave wanted to see the judgment of Ben, which gave us another chance to see Smokey in all of his glory. It was during this rewatch that we realized Flocke left Ben, Smokey came, Smokey left, Flocke came back. Now we know why!

Season 3, Episode 7, Not in Portland - He couldn't pass up the chance to watch a Juliet centered episode, plus we got to see Room 23 again, which is still as creepy as ever!

I'm curious to hear which episodes are your personal favorites or ones that you think may hold clues to the 42 questions.

Fellow Losties!

Season 6 started with a bang last night, and we absolutely got some answers to some of the most central 42 questions. I'll jump right in and I'll recap each question before discussing the answers. I'll go in numeric order.

So we don't have answers, exactly, to where Claire has been, or what happened to her. But we did get to see her beautiful face last night, even if it was for a brief minute. (Brett, I bet you were very excited). Can you all hardly believe it's been 17 episodes since Claire last appeared? Last night gave me faith that there will be many more Claire moments to come this season.

3. Smokey – Another question that has plagued loyal viewers from the very first episode. What the heck is the black smoke monster!? Is it a security system? Is it a sort of attack dog? Whatever it is, Smokey has the ability to ‘judge’ people (Ben, Eko) , seems to live in The Temple, and can be deployed by draining a puddle of water under Ben’s old house in New Otherton. We also know it the smoke monster has been on the island for a very long time, as the Egyptian hieroglyphics on the wall of the room below The Temple depict. But the exact purpose and origin of Smokey still remain one of Lost’s greatest mysteries.

6. Man In Black (Jacob’s Nemesis) – Since Walt and Locke played backgammon in the pilot episode; fans have known that black and white hold symbolic significance in the world of LOST. So when Jacob’s nemesis shows up on the beach wearing black while Jacob is wearing white, we knew that the scene was significant. But who, exactly is the man in black, why does he want to kill Jacob? How did he get to the island? Is he really bad, as his black shirt leads us to believe? How does he have the ability to become ‘Flocke’? Also, is there a biblical connection to the story of Jacob and Esau, in which two brothers fight for ‘birthright’ to rule over their father’s wealth and authority? Seems awful likely to this humble fan.

HOLY FREAKING CRAP. Hands down the best part of last night's episode in my opinion. Smokey is the Man in Black. While I felt great relief to have this little piece of knowledge, I'm still confused about a few things. What's up with the ash? Why does that keep Smokey out? I'm also still stuck on the good v. bad debate. I'm just not sure which the man in black is. Also, one of the strangest moments of the episode was when he talked about wanting to go home. Where's home? How longs he been on the island? I guess when LOST closes one door, fifty more question windows open!

4. Flocke – As we know from Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) the Locke that returns to the island, is not the Locke that left the island. Commonly referred to as “Flocke” (fake + Locke = Flocke), he convinces Ben to kill Jacob, but not before Jacob recognizes Flocke as his nemesis. Who is this Flocke and how did he shift shape to look like John Locke? We know he doesn’t just take over Locke’s body, as Illana’s crew is hauling the body all over the island in search of Richard Alpert, so how exactly does he become John Locke? And does Jacob’s nemesis choose John Locke anyway? For how long has he been John Locke? Many fans postulate that Locke’s been Flocke since Ben shot him in Season 3, Episode 22 (Through the Looking Glass) , but we still don’t know for certain! Surely Flocke related mysteries will be resolved in Season 6.

Small answers, but still answers. We know a bit more about why the Man In Black choose John Locke. Locke was chosen due to his faith in the island and his ability to admit that life off the island wasn't so grand after all. I guess Locke's special relationship with the island really, I don't know, paid off?

7. Richard Alpert – If you have a pulse and are a fan of LOST, you’ve got to be wondering what the heck is going on with Richard Alpert (and I’m not talking about his guyliner)! He claims that Jacob gave him the ability to never age (can I get that in a bottle?), but we’re still not sure why. What brought Richard to the island? Why did Jacob select him to be his ‘advisor’? Does he have a relationship with Jacob’s nemesis? How old is this guy? One of my burning Richard-related questions comes from Season 3, Episode 20 (The Man Behind the Curtain). Richard meets young-Ben in the jungle, and this is the only time Richard’s appearance is different. His hair is long, his clothes are disheveled – what’s up with this? Why isn’t he clean cut Richard we’ve seen ever since? Weird. Let’s hope for some Alpert back story in Season 6.

Dude was in chains at some point. Strange. Was he a prisoner on the Black Rock? Just a guess.

25. Who does Illana work for? – Illana (no last name) crashes on the island in 2007 after escorting Sayid on Ajira 316. Once the plane has crashed she and a few other survivors (including Bram) stuff John Locke’s corpse into a giant metal box and begin wandering around the island to find Jacob’s cabin. When they find Jacob’s cabin deserted, Illana takes the group to the ‘shadow of the statue’ where she shows John Locke’s body to Richard Alpert. We’ve seen both Illana and Bram before, off the island. Illana is visited by Jacob in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) where she says she will ‘help him’. Bram throws Miles into a van in Season 5, Episode 13 (Some Like it Hoth) and tells him not to work for Widmore. So how are they connected to Jacob and the island? How does Illana know her way around the island enough to find Jacob’s cabin and the statue? Who do they work for, who are the “good guys”?

I'm not sure I'm satisfied with the answer "They're Jacob's bodyguards". Why the heck would Jacob need to travel to Russia to find a woman in a hospital bed burned to hell to ask her to be his bodyguard. I hope there's more to this story, because right now, I'm not buying it.

27. What happens in the temple? - In Season 5, Episode 11 (Whatever Happened, Happened) Richard Alpert takes a dying young Ben Linus into The Temple to be healed. Richard tells Kate that Ben will lose his innocents and will always be “one of them”. The Temple also appears to be the home of the smoke monster. There are extensive walls built around The Temple to protect it and tunnels underground leading to it. So who build The Temple and what is it used for? What happens inside The Temple that caused young Ben to become the Ben we know today?

Again, another question we got some serious answers for. Apparently there is a spring with water that saves your life. Those familiar with the temple seemed surprised that the water was not clear (Was the water mucky because Jacob died? I think so.) Now, who the heck were those people, including the Japanese man, whose name is Dogen. According to LOSTPEDIA.com, Dogen was a Buddhist philosopher who was the head of a monastery named 'Eihei-ji' which means 'temple of eternal peace. Okay, I guess that makes sense. I'll be honest, I found these new "Others" to be pretty darn confusing. I hope we learn more about them soon.

28. Did Jack’s plan to blow up the electromagnetic pocket with the hydrogen bomb work or did the Losties cause the incident they were trying to prevent? – Definitely the central question leading into the Season 6 premiere, hopefully we’ll all soon know if detonating a hydrogen bomb atop a pocket of electromagnetic pocket helped save our Losties from ever crashing on the island. If it worked, what will we find out about the lives of our favorite characters minus the involuntary island vacation? If it didn’t work, will the blast have been enough to kill those in the area when the detonation happened? What will it all mean for the future of LOST?

Something tells me we're not going to answer this question any time soon. Which reality is actually real? We're going to be debating that all season. According to Juilet "It worked." We'll just have to wait and see.

29. Why did the Others choose Cindy and the children? – Cindy was a flight attendant on Oceanic 815 and a survivor of the crash with the other Tailies. She went missing when the Tailies were journeying to the beach camp along with Zach and Emma. We later learn that they’ve been living with the Others and Cindy and Emma come to talk to Jack when he’s captured at the Hydra station in Season 3, Episode 9 (Stranger in a Strange Land). Jack asks Cindy why she’s with the Others. She tells him that they are there “to watch”. So why Cindy, Emma, and Zach out of all of the survivors? What’s Cindy’s connection to the Others and did it exist before the crash?

No answers, but there they were after 3 whole seasons! When I wrote these questions, I thought an answer to this one was a long shot, but I think we may get an answer to this one after all.

36. What the heck was the loophole? – The opening scene of Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) shows Jacob and the man in black sitting on the beach. The man in black asks Jacob, “Do you have any idea how badly I want to kill you right now?”. Jacob responds that he does and the man in black says that one day he will find “a loophole”. Later in the episode, when Flocke meets Jacob in the statue Jacob says “Well, I guess I found your loophole”. So what is the loophole and why did it take so long to find this loophole? Could the loophole only involve John Locke or does it include any dead body?

I can't say for sure, but I think the loophole question was answered. It seems that the loophole was simply convincing someone else to kill Jacob, since the rules dictate the Man in Black could not kill him by himself. I wonder why it took so long to find someone to kill Jacob. Maybe there is more to this question than we know right now.

That's all the answers I have for this episode. All in all, I thought it was pretty FREAKING fabulous. I loved the interactions between the characters on the airplane, it was such a cool treat to see them interact in ways that they never would have on the island. I got a huge kick out of Frogurt sleeping next to Locke, but I missed Shannon, Michael, and Walt. Seeing Desmond made my night, along with a happy Rose and Bernard. I almost cried twice, once when Hurley said he was lucky and once when Jack offered to fix John Locke. I did not, however, shed a tear over Juliet. Now my husband can stop talking about her boobs.

I'm relieved they didn't kill off Sayid, but I'm worried about island Hurley. He was wearing a RED SHIRT.

The next episode is called (highlight to read, this is spoiler proof) "What Kate Does", so it sounds like we'll be learning a lot more about Kate's hijacked taxi cab ride, which hopefully also includes more Claire information.

1. The numbers – First appearing in Episode 18 of Season 1 (Numbers), 4-8-15-16-23-42 have been part of LOST folklore from the very beginning. They help Hurley win the lottery, they must be typed into the hatch computer every 108 minutes or the world will end, they appear on Danielle’s map, they are the serial number on the door of The Swan, and they drive Leonard crazy, but what are their origins? With the Losties stuck in 1977, could Hurley actually be tied to the origin of the numbers that later drive him mad?

2. Claire Littleton – Our favorite island mother has been missing since Season 4, Episode 10 (Something Nice Back Home). We know she saw her father, Christian Shephard, leaves Aaron behind, and wanders off in the jungle night with her dead dad but we don’t know why! What happened to Claire that could take her from doting mother to jungle wander? Why did she leave Aaron behind? We see her in Season 4, Episode 11 (Cabin Fever) seemingly relaxed and Aaron-free sitting in Jacob’s cabin with Christian, but again we receive no explanation of why she’s left her child behind. Let’s hope Season 6 gives us some Claire related clarity!

5. The Black Rock – A British trading ship that is shipwrecked in the Dark Territory of the island, we’re not sure how a giant ship ended up on the middle of the island. According to the first mate’s journal in Season 4, Episode 5 (The Constant) the ship left England in 1845 and sailed towards modern-day Thailand. The journal was found with pirate artifacts on an island off the coast of Madagascar and was owned by the Hanso family (think Dharma Initiative financing) until it was auctioned off to Charles Widmore in 1996. Who was on the boat? What brought the Black Rock to the island? How did the journal get to Madagascar? So many questions, hopefully enough time to answer them all!

8. Walt’s powers – There’s something special about Walt Lloyd, but no one knows exactly what his ‘specialness’ is. Part island psychic part bird-caller, Walt is of special interest to the Others , until he does something mysterious that scares them. Ms. Klugh asks Michael if Walt has ever appeared where he wasn’t supposed to be, but this is almost the only clue we have to Walt’s powers. What are they and how did he get them? Will his powers bring Walt back to the island?

9. Adam and Eve – In Season 1, Episode 6 (House of the Rising Sun) the Losties travel to some caves located in the interior of the island where they find two skeletons, one male, one female. Jack finds two stones on the bodies, one black, one white. The creators of LOST have said that the most common question they are asked is if they are making up the plot of the show as they go along, or if they have had it planned. They say that the long-term plot has been planned from the beginning, and in the end, viewers will be able to look back to Adam and Eve as proof that the creators always knew where the show was going to end. So this leads me to believe we will find out the identities of Adam and Eve, and they are probably characters we already know. Rose and Bernard, as the black and white stones may indicate? Sun and Jin, as the bodies first appear in a Sun-centered episode? Sawyer and Juliet, Jack and Kate, Aaron and Ji-Yeon, Eloise Hawking and Charles Widmore? The possibilities are endless!

10. Libby – Gasps were heard around the world when Michael shot Libby at the end of Season 2 and LOST fans have been waiting for the show to wrap up the Libby plot line for four seasons. So why was she in the Santa Rose Mental Hospital with Hurley? And why didn’t they recognize each other on the island years later? Online rumors abound that the Libby story will not be tackled in Season 6, because Cynthia Watros (a Michigan native) won’t return to Hawaii to pick up the Libby role, but I hope the creators find a way to wrap it up with or without her.

11. What does it mean when Jacob touches you? - In Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident), we see Jacob touch eight of our favorite Losties (Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sayid, Hurley, Sun, and Jin) sometime during their life. He touches Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke, Sun and Jin before they travel to the island on 815 and touches Sayid and Hurley after they were rescued as part of the Oceanic Six. He also visits Illana in a Russian hospital and while we think he touched her, he was wearing gloves. When he touches John Locke after Locke falls eight stories, it appears that Jacob brings him back to life. What does this all mean? Will it have implications for the characters he touched in the future?

12. Is Charlie “The Musician”? – In Season 3, Episode22 (Through the Looking Glass) everyone’s favorite British musician, Charlie Pace meets his destiny below the Lost Sea in the dharma station, The Looking Glass. Charlie has traveled to this station to turn off a signal that is jamming the islands communication equipment. Bonnie, an Other, tells Charlie that the code to turn off the jamming equipment is the tune of “Good Vibrations” by The Beach Boys. Before she dies, she reports “It was programmed by a musician”. Could Charlie be this musician? For all of you shaking your head at me, I remind you that nothing is impossible on LOST.

13. Hurley Bird – There’s a bird on the island and it says Hurley. Weird, right? We’ve seen and heard the bird twice, once in Season 1, Episode 24 (Exodus, Part 2) and Season 2, Episode 23 (Live Together, Die Alone). What is the origin of this bird and how the heck does it know Hurley’s name?

14. Love quadrangle – Who ends up with who? – Don’t pretend you don’t want to know. Are you a Jate (Jack and Kate), a Skate (Sawyer and Kate), a Suliet (Sawyer and Juliet), or a Jacket (Jack and Juliet)? Whoever you’re rooting for, let’s hope this complex love story gets wrapped up in Season 6.

15. Egyptian Connection - There are many instances of Egyptian artifacts showing up on the island. You can’t spit without hitting a hieroglyphic drawing (on the countdown timer in the Swan, secret door in Ben’s New Otherton house, by the frozen donkey wheel, where Smokey lives, in Dharma classrooms, ect.) and the four toed statue turned out the be a statue of Taweret, the Egyptian Goddess of childbirth (holy crap!). Dharma Paul also wore an ankh around his neck before his death and his widow, Amy, keeps the necklace in her dresser. The ankh is also an ancient Egyptian symbol for life and fertility. There must be some kind of connection between the ancient Egyptians and the island, but what is that connection and is it important? With all of the fertility references, are the Egyptians somehow responsible for the strange pregnancy issues on the island?

16. What’s up with Latin and the Others? – While we’re on the ancient population track, why do the Others speak Latin? In Season 5, Episode 3 (Jughead), we meet two Others (one of which turns out to be good ol’ Chuck Widmore) who speak Latin. It is in this episode we learn that Juliet also speaks Latin. Latin is also the language of choice for Illana’s crew when asking, “What lies in the shadow of the statue?” and for Richard’s reply “He who will save us all”. So how the heck did they learn Latin? Why chose a dead language? Strange.

17. Charlotte Lewis’s back story - We know she’s an anthropologist who grew up on the island where her parents were members of the Dharma Initiative. We know she leaves the island with her mother but not her father and that she meets Daniel Faraday as a child and again as an adult who has returned to the island as a member of the freighter crew. We even know she’s not allowed a chocolate before dinner. But we still don’t know an awful lot about Charlotte, including who her father is and why this pretty British woman speaks fluent Korean. Even though she met her untimely death, I hope we hear more about Charlotte and the mystery that surrounds her character.

18. Why can’t Ben kill Widmore? – In Season 4, Episode 9 (The Shape of Things to Come), Ben travels off the island Ben visits Widmore in his bedroom in the middle of the night. Widmore asks Ben if he’s come to kill him and Ben replies “we both know I can’t do that.” Why would this be? What is the relationship between these two characters and how will it end? Is one man good and the other man bad? Does the Widmore/Ben relationship shadow the Jacob/Man in Black relationship? I’m sure we’ll learn more about this relationship in Season 6.

19. Dharma Vaccines – First seen in Season 2, Episode 1 (Man of Science, Man of Faith) multiple LOST characters have come into contact with the Dharma vaccine including Desmond, Claire, Aaron, and all Dharma workers when they first arrive on the island. We still don’t know what the vaccine protects island residents from, if anything. What is the vaccine and does it have anything to do with the sickness that Danielle’s team fell victim to during their stay on the island or does it have anything to do with the pregnancy issues?

20. Aaron Littleton – is he meaningful to the island? – Born on the island in Season 1, Episode 20 (Do No Harm) Aaron Littleton has had a rough life. Bound for adoption, injected in-utero with the weird Dharma vaccine, kidnapped by Danielle, left in the jungle by his mother, taken back to the United States to be raised by Kate and Drunk-bearded Jack, and now in the loving care of Claire’s mother, rumors abound that Aaron is a very special little boy. Biblically speaking, Aaron is the son of Jacob, making him a significant piece of the island puzzle. Some even think Widmore is Aaron’s paternal grandfather, making the island connection to Aaron even stronger. Others speculate that Aaron died in-utero and was “resurrected” by Jacob’s nemesis. Still others think he’s the Adam of Adam and Eve. Much speculation for such a little boy!

21. Pregnancy Issues - Juliet Burke is brought to the island as a fertility specialist in Season 3, Episode 7 (Not in Portland) to help the Others with their child-birthing issues. It appears that the island reduces a woman’s reproductive capabilities, but enhances male sperm count. Women who conceive on the island die before their third trimester, but women who conceive off the island appear to be able to give birth on the island without complication (Claire, Danielle). We’re not sure though, that the pregnancy issues occurred before 1977, as Amy gives birth to a healthy Ethan and we’re pretty sure she conceived on the island. So why are there pregnancy issues when the island seemingly ‘cures’ other ailments (Locke’s paralysis, Rose’s cancer)? What causes the problem? Is it ‘the incident’? Is the pregnancy issue related to the Dharma vaccine and illness?

22. Why did the Oceanic Six “have to go back!”? – Season 3 ends with Jack yelling, “We have to go back, Kate! We have to go back!” But once the Losties return to the island in Season 5, Jack doesn’t do much of anything at all until Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident). Did he “have to go back” just to blow up the electromagnetic pocket with the hydrogen bomb in order to save the island, prevent the incident, and reset the lives of the Oceanic 815 passengers to pre-crash? Is that the only reason they ‘had to go back’? For such a prominent line, it seems like it must mean more than it does right now.

23. Room 23 – The Others put both Walt and Karl in Room 23, located in the Dharma Hydra station. Located inside the room is a chair, where the Others strap people in and force them to watch a very strange brainwashing video over and over. The video contains the phrases, “We are the cause of our own suffering”, “Everything changes”, and “God loves you as He loved Jacob” along with many different images. Eyes are also a central part of the video, which fans know are important to LOST in general. What’s the purpose of this video? Why brainwash people? Since Room 23 is located at the Hydra, which was used for zoological research – was the video meant for animals? Also, if the movie was created by Dharma, why the references to Jacob and why are the Other using it?

Why do Jack, Hurley, Kate and Sayid flash to 1977, but Sun stays in the present during the 316 crash? – When the Oceanic Six ride on Ajira 316, the plane begins to shake and it is evident that the plane is about to crash on our favorite mysterious island. During the crash, a white flash takes place and Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid disappear. We later learn that they have been transported to 1977 and meet up with Sawyer and the other Losties that have teamed up with the Dharma Initiative. So why is Sun the only member of the Oceanic Six to crash in 2007 with the rest of the Ajira passengers and John Locke’s corpse? I’d like nothing more than to see Sun and Jin reunited – Season 5 was enough time apart! Please, please, please bring them back together in Season 6.

Jack asks Cindy why she’s with the Others. She tells him that they are there “to watch”. So why Cindy, Emma, and Zach out of all of the survivors? What’s Cindy’s connection to the Others and did it exist before the crash?

30. Christian Shephard – We know he’s more than just Jack father, but what’s going on with Christian Shephard? When Jack saw visions of his father during Season 1, were they really visions or has something possessed Christian’s body? Why does Christian lure Claire into the jungle? Why does Christian appear in Jacob’s cabin?

31. Jacob’s Origins – I know I’m not alone when I say I hope that a large portion of Season 6 is dedicated to Jacob’s back story. Who is this guy? How long has he been on the island? How did he become the leader of the island? Is he good or bad? Did he ever live in that cabin, or has he always lived inside a foot? Does he travel on and off the island via the frozen donkey wheel or is there some other way? How does he know the Losties he traveled to touch? How does he make Richard Alpert seemingly immortal? Jacob must be explored in depth this season!

32. Jacob’s Cabin – First seen by fans in Season 3, Episode 20 (Man Behind the Curtain) Jacob’s cabin is full of mystery. First, we’re not certain Jacob was ever really there, and it he was, he hasn’t lived there for a very long time. So when John Locke visits the cabin, who does he hear whisper “Help me?” Why does Christian Shephard take Claire to the cabin? What’s with the circle of ashes around it? Why can only certain people find the cabin (Hurley, for one) when others cannot?

33. The Horse from Kate’s Past – In Season 2, Episode 9 (What Kate Did) Kate encounters a horse from her past on the island. She thinks she is crazy, but when she sees the horse again later in the episode, Sawyer is with her and confirms that there is, in fact, a black horse in front of them. While this moment is seemingly unimportant, the creators keep revisiting the moment in clip shows, the kind that are meant to help viewers ‘catch up’ with the important moments of LOST. Does the horse mean something more than we first thought?

34. Why isn’t the island done with Desmond yet? – My favorite Scotsman, Desmond has a unique gift that makes him a central character in the story of the island. We know that Desmond spent time as a monk, in the Royal Scottish Regiment, and as a set designer for the Royal Shakespeare Company, but he’s one of the only main character’s whose childhood is still a mystery to loyal viewers. Are there clues to Desmond’s special powers hidden in his childhood? In Season 5, Episode 6 (316) Eloise Hawking tells Desmond that the island isn’t done with him yet. So what does the island have in store for Desmond and will it take him away from Penny again (I’m just not sure I can bare that pain again!).

35. Eloise Hawking – The character of Eloise Hawking really embodies what is so fabulous about LOST. A character with a brief appearance in Season 3, Episode 8 when she encounters Desmond and lectures him about destiny, Eloise then appears again in Season 5 and plays a central role in the island’s story. There are still many questions surrounding the woman who spent the 1950’s as the leader of the Others on the island. We know that she was on the island, where she was pregnant with Charles Widmore’s child. We know that she must have left the island at some point, but we have no idea why or when. We know her child is Daniel Faraday, but we don’t know why his last name is Faraday or why she hid Charles Widmore as his father. We know she pushed Daniel to the island, but did she know that a younger version of herself would kill him once he’s on the island? Why does she continue to meddle in the affairs of the island? Does she work for Widmore or for someone else connected to the island?

36. What the heck was the loophole? – The opening scene of Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) shows Jacob and the man in black sitting on the beach. The man in black asks Jacob, “Do you have any idea how badly I want to kill you right now?”. Jacob responds that he does and the man in black says that one day he will find “a loophole”. Later in the episode, when Flocke meets Jacob in the statue Jacob says “Well, I guess I found your loophole”. So what is the loophole and why did it take so long to find this loophole? Could the loophole only involve John Locke or does it include any dead body?

37. Why does the island whisper? – The whispers are one of the original island mysteries. Many have speculated that the voices are the island’s dead trying to communicate with the living. Others think that the voices may be in a parallel reality and the island is the point where these two worlds meet. Other theories include the Others and Smokey. Who knows? Not me! What I do know is that the whispers have occurred in every season, so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more whispers in Season 6.

38. Who is Henry Gale? – He crashed in his hot air balloon on the island and wrote a message to his wife on a $20 bill before dying sometime in 2003. According to his driver’s license, he’s from Minnesota and we know he is the founder of Minnesota Metallurgy, a Widmore Company. But why was he traveling over the Pacific in a balloon? How did he crash? How did he die and who buried him? Since this is LOST, I can’t help but think Henry is connected to our Losties somehow.

39. Frank Lapidus is a candidate for what? – Lapidus first arrives on the island as a member of the freighter team, but we later learn that he was suppose to be the pilot of the ill-fated Oceanic 815. He brings the Oceanic Six to the freighter via the helicopter and returns to the island as the pilot of Ajira 316. When Illana’s team takes off in search of Richard Alpert and Jacob, Illana asks Lapidus the infamous question, “What lies in the shadow of the statue?”. Lapidus doesn’t have the slightest idea, so she knocks him out. When he wakes up, the group tells him he may be “a candidate” and that he can come with them. What the heck is he a candidate for?

40. Who’s coming? - When Jacob bites the dust at the hands of Ben in Season 5, Episode 16 (The Incident) he’s last words to Flocke are “They’re coming”. Then he burns to death. I’ve got no idea who’s coming, do you?

41. Why does Stuart Radzinski kill himself? – Definitely my most-hated Dharma character, we’re told that Stuart Radzinski shoots himself in the head while living in the Swan station. Radzinski plays an important role in the building of the Swan station throughout Season 5 and we know that eventually he works in the station with Kevin Inman. He paints a mysterious map of the island on the Swan blast door and edits the Swan Orientation video before he kills himself in the Swan. Does madness drive him to suicide or is there more to the Radzinski storyline?

42. Origin of the Frozen Donkey Wheel – Located beneath the Orchid station, the frozen donkey wheel moves the island through time. When one turns the wheel, it causes them to land in a Tunisian desert. We know the wheel exists in 1974, when Locke pushes the wheel and stops the island from skipping in time. We know that Dharma discovers the wheel in 1977 and that Ben used the wheel sometime in 2005 to leave the island, but we’re still not sure of the origin of the wheel. Since there are hieroglyphics on the wall by the wheel, we can guess that it has been on the island for a very long time, but it would be nice to firm up the origin of the frozen donkey wheel this season, as it is such an interesting and important piece of the island.

So we’ve reached the end my fellow LOST fans. I’ll be keeping track throughout Season 6 and updating this list with answers when they are delivered.

Over the past few weeks I've been batting around the idea of blogging through the final season of LOST.

It began with my 42 questions, and I've decided to post the questions here and keep track of the answers throughout the season. I've reposted the questions on this blog, so everything's in the same place.
